Hello, I have read the posts from months before. It's Feb now, and I was wondering has the issues with the grainy screen been better with the displays.

Which LCD should I get, and is there a much of a difference between the wxga and wxga+? Thanks, and God bless you. Loves

It's basically personal preference, do you prefer more real estate while you work? Also, take note that unless you get the 8600M GT, you won't be playing newer games at WXGA+ resolution, and scaling it down will make it ugly.

The grainy screen issue still exists unfortunately, although I believe that it's mostly confined to WSXGA+ screens now.

Well I ordered a Vostro 1500 on 1/30 with a WXSGA+ screen and I got a beautiful LG screen right off the bat. Unfortunately it had a dead pixel so I got a replacement system. I am typing on the replacement system right now and it also has a beautiful LG screen.

I've heard that the Vostro WXSGA+ screen is often LG, and in my case I was 2 for 2 with a LG. I love my lappy and I suggest you go for WXSGA+ if you want real estate for photo editing or gaming.

It really is a preference, I highly suggest going to a store and spending 5-10 minutes on each screen, 1 minute won't do anything. I had the WSXGA+ screen for 6 months and when I'm staring at that screen for a few hours I notice my eyesight starting to wane.

I personally think looking at 1680x1050 on a 15.4" isn't good for eye health, but everybody's different, so to each their own.

Just curious, but why did you sell your Vostro? It seemed pretty well stacked.

Good to hear that you haven't encountered graininess on the WXSGA+ unit, as it looks as if I may be getting a similarly specced Vostro.

Does anyone know if the 17" screens suffered from graininess?

Mainly the screen - it was beautifully crisp, but after long hours it hurts my eyes. Also I do a lot of surfing while watching tv. So when I'm reading on my LCD on 1680 x 1050 and then scroll my eyes up to the tv, my eyes had to adjust because they were so focussed on the lcd.

Now that I'm temporarily using my old laptop, a 14.1" 1024 x 768, I never have problems with my eyes and they don't get tired. I'm not even 30, I want to keep my eyes protected by not straining them on a small screen.

The laptop was great, but it was a bit too bulky as well.

i would like to buy an xps 1530 with the 1440x900 screen. my question is -will the quality of the games drop dramatically if i play at the 1024x768(the one smaller than 1280x800) resolution? will i notice the change in the quality at all?

I find text uncomfortably small at WXGA+ 1440x900 on a 15.4". To me WXGA 1200x800 is best on a 15.4" screen.

That's interesting, thanks for the info. I am also just under 30, but I haven't noticed any issues reading the screen, and my eyes aren't exactly 20/20 anymore. You can always change the dpi of the screen so it's not too tiny.

1680x1050 at 100% dpi was definitely straining and way too small. Currently I have it at 1680x1050 at 110$ dip and it looks good. I could even bump it up a little more if I wanted. I understand your issue with that however.

I am really loving this notebook thus far, it's been great. I haven't been too bothered by the size, but maybe it's because I don't carry it super long distances. Even then, it's no heavier than a backpack with some books, so I'm straight.
