did you remove the thermal pads? i really hope not. that seems to be a very common way to fry your internal components. you need those pads to be in there.

there were no thermal pads on the memory.....so there was nothign to remove. As far as the GPU core goes,i removed the thermal pad covering it, and covered the core with Arctic Silver 5 in hopes of lowering temperatures. Now im thinking i did not apply enough, but i dont know.

Is 67-70 a high load temperature?

My X1600 runs around the same temps.
You should wait for a good while for the thermal paste to take the maximum heat dissipation capability.

do you know how long it takes, roughly, 3 - 4 days?, Im thinkin of reinstalling my windows. My X1400 is nice i like the clock speeds, but when it switches to battery and the clocks drop down it immidiatly goes wack! on the screen, I turned off that powerplay option in the Catalyst CCC and now am seeing if that was why its causing it to drop.

In the meantime, read through the Cooling Guide for tips. Come to think of it...I need to read it.

    Hey devilsknight

Could you tell me how you even reached the thermal pad? I can't remove the heatsink off the x1400 because there are "captive" screws. These make it so I can't take the heatsink off. How did you accomplish this? Thanks!
