I requested my backup from cds from dell about a month ago and they arrived yesterday, a little late but...instead to sending me xp home that i initially ordered they sent me xp pro. Is there any advantage to upgrading? and can I just upgrade on top of my original xp home install or do I have to reformat again? thanks

You can upgrade on top, but if you're asking, you don't need to. Pro offers very specific upgrades that most people don't need.
