I am having problems getting xp on my vostro 1500. i couldn't get the sata controller drivers to work at the part of the xp instalation where you need to press f6 so i changed the bios setting to ata. i would prefer this to be running at sata speed?

i then have to create a boot loader using "bootcfg /rebuild" in xp recovery console to get it to boot or it will error with "missing hal.dll" this is annoying because it has only one OS installed so i would prefer it to boot straight to xp without me having to press "return" or wait 30secs.

please help as i really want this xp insatlation sorted

    thanks,
    richard

When I tried using SATA or what the other mode is called instead of ATA, I just got a bluescreen.
About the bootproblem, is your XP a legal copy? A copy of the cd can often make problems like these happen.

yes it is a legal copy, i read somewhere that using nlite to implement the sata drivers into the xp instalation can help. has anyone tried this?
