hello all, I am new to this forum and am glad to have found it. I am seriousely considering purchasing the dell xps 1210. the only thing is that whatever laptop I purchase must run avid express pro. on avids sight the precisions are certified but would cost me over $1000 more when the 1210 would really work nicely. stangely the old 8420 with onboard video is certified but the question is compatability for the 1210. I would order the 1210 with 2.16 processor, 2gb ram and 7400 video card. anyones input would be appreciated. thanx

It looks like you need a Nvidia Quatro GPU, which is the reason why their site does not state the M1210 is certified. The M1210's GPU, while excellent for its class, doesn't really measure up to a Latitude's or Precision's GPU, which is more powerful, and is specifically designed for running such programs as Avid Xpress Pro. By guessing, I know the M1210 would probably be able to run the program, but probably not nearly as fast as a Precision or Latitude with an Nvidia Quatro card.

Thank you for replying. I don't mind if the 1210 doesn't do the work as fast because of the other strengths(size, camera, etc.) but if the inspiron 5160 is certified using its integrated video- shoudn't the 256mb dedicated video card return equivelant times? I don't want things things to take twice as long but a moderately slower (1.5x) time would be acceptable. thoughts? thanx

Note that the Nvidia 7400 on the M1210 is 64mb dedicated & 192mb shared (on board).
