I received my new dell xps 1530 on weds of this week. Although the performance blew me away, i couldnt help but notice some problems.
First thing, when i opened up the box, and looked at the bottom of the machine, one of the panels was not attached correctly and was sticking out on one side. I just unscrewed the screws and put it back on nicely. I know it isnt a big deal, but how can dell not see that before they ship the machine?THere was also some minor scratches by the power button, also not a big deal.
The hard drive also made an annoying clicking sound that wasnt too loud, but just enough to get under your skin. I stumbled across a post outlining a possible solution with the program notebook hardware control and it did work: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168425
I was thinking of returning it because to the noise but, im glad i didnt have to, this laptop is amazing! Though i might be a little biased because the desktop i was running before didnt even have a pcie slot![]()

The scratches by the power switch...there may be a light plastic film over the glossy plastic that runs along there the same as the M1330...just remove it.
-
thanks hehe. Ive done that before with my cell phone too, very embarrassing
-
Is there a plasic film on all 1530s? Because I don't see one on mine..maybe im just dumb? Your talking about the panel with the touch screen media controls above the keyboard right?
-
-
yeah i tried running my fingernail along the side, couldn't find anything
-
mine didnt have any plastic covers either
-
yeah, the second hand parts don't have the plastic anymore. don't worry about it. You know, there aren't any m1530s in the outlet, but you see easily just by browsing this forum that there have been a lot of returns.
-
this isn't a second hand part, this is brand new
-
then where's the plastic that comes on it?
-
I doubt Dell could sell you a laptop with a reused part without specifying that it was refurbished. It probably just doesn't have one, they aren't all made in the same plant. I am from Canada so i ordered mine from dell.ca
-
They wouldn't put a re-used part on it without telling me, that would be illegal, no business would do that with a small piece of plastic. Even if it is reused, I don't really care because it looks fine. They where probably just made in different plants like Adrian said...mine was sent from a Memphis plant.

the plastic is well put on, hard to pick that there was plastic there, i took mine off anyway just scratch it with your fingernails, if your nails start to dig into something it then its probably the plastic
xps 1530 arrived! Complaints -HD noise-fixed, sloppy packing
