    I have a XPS 1530, 4gb ram, 8400 gs graphics card, core2 t5250.

I bought a t9300 to replace my existing cpu and thought the swap would be no problem.

Now im starting to come across article of people saying their not compatible. Does anyone know for sure?

Same socket, same chipset. I dont see why its not compatible.

Unless its a chipset revision that doesnt support penryns

If you go to buy a XPS 1530 with 8400GS 128mb and T9300 it says the CPU and graphics card are not

compatible. I've seen laptops for sale with this configuration but I dont think it was a XPS 1530. It just

doesnt seem to make any sense. Maybe its some ploy by dell to get you to spend more $. If anyone knows

for sure, please let me know. I would have to cancel my cpu order soon before it ship out.

When I upgraded my bios from dell's website there was only one option. It looks to me that all 1530's share

the same bios. The 1330 is compatible with the cpu and graphics card. If i enter my service tag on their site

and look up cpu upgrades the T9300 is on the list. I guess I will have to wait untill I can talk to dell.

from what i heard, its something to do with gpu's gddr2 and gddr3 having incompatibilities with the cpu/system board. sounds like bull to me, dell just wants you to get the 8600GT

You can always go with the merom T7500/7700

lets move this thread to the dell section, might get better responses there

Im but a spammer passing along information I seen when spamming. I know on a technical level they are compatible. If made impossible by Dell and their BIOS, I do not know.

Call the people who get paid to know, Dell.

Hey if it doesn't work. Let me know. Maybe do a trade + some cash for my T7250? :)

But honestly it really should work.

I can return the CPU but there is a 15% restocking fee and I have to pay postage to return it. I will be out about 80 dollars.

On the same topic (roughly), has anyone put an X9000 in the M1530? I read about one person that did on here, forget who though.

Tempted to grab one in a year's time or so if they're still floating around (hopefully a bit cheaper by then). Is there any point though? Is having the multiplier unlocked pointless, or will the BIOS support it like in the M1730?

I'm thinking OCing the T9500 to 2.8 or 3.0 is a much better option (cheaper and just as viable) but I'm interested in the X9000 support nonetheless.

People have managed to put a x9000 on a m1330.

Ill keep it short, the x9000 is not worth it for many reasons. You will better off with a T9xxx

No go ahead, make it long - I'm interested to hear the reasons.
I already have a T9500 which I'm super happy with, just curious/interested really.

The laptop in question has a fairly nice cooling system in my opinion so heat related issues aren't big, and obviously battery life isn't a huge concern for someone running X9000 (not to mention speedstep will probably keep power consumption similar to T9300/T9500). Any other issues?

    -Price

Not worth the money for the power your getting. For most applications a T9300 is more than enough to do the job. You will only ever need a x9000 for uber cpu intensive tasks not gaming.

    -Heat

They only put a x9000 in selected 17" for a good reason. The m1530's design was never meant to accomodate a x9000's heat. DeLL would have offered this processor if it could. Since most 15.1" notebook GPU and CPU share the same heatsink and fan, your gpu temps will go up aswell.

Sure people managed to do it, i would really like to stress test it to see for myself without the help of undervolting or underclocking

    -Battery Life

Forget about portability, battery life will significantly go down. Ive seen the voltages of all the multipliers of this processor, its not near the T9xxx voltages. Again, they only put this on 17" for a reason. It might even possibly put a strain on your 95w adapter. The cooling power needed for this cpu will make your fans work more aggressively which leads to less battery life

    -Not OC'able through BIOS

The biggest advantage of an extreme core is being able to unlock the last 2 multipliers to OC to 3.2ghz.
