first of all i'd like to say hello to you guys. i'm new to this forum and have some questions regarding the xps 1530.

i've read in some reviews that the dvd drive seems to be quite loud. can anyone confirm that it is on a level that is really annoying?

on notebookcheck.com they say in their review that the display of the 1530 is way too glossy and that it can be quite hard to see something on the display if there are too many lightsources around the laptop. you can check out a video of the 1530 display's viewing angles when scrolling down the review page and it looks not so good imo: http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Dell-XPS-M1530-Notebook.7202.0.html

right now they got pretty good deals on dell germany's website. i wonder if i should get a nice xps 1530 system right now or if it would be much wiser to wait for the inspiron 1525. the main reason for me to buy a xps 1530 now would be the 8600gt with ddr3 memory. but who knows... maybe the 1525 will also have this option. any rumours on that?

There are several posts within the last couple of weeks regarding just the information you seek. Some people have said their drives are quiet and others just the opposite. I'm not sure what "too glossy" is referring to, I suspect it's subjective but their are products from 3M and other manufacturs to cut down on glare.

The current inspiron 1520 has the 8600gt available, I suspect the 1525 will not downgrade and may even have an updated version.

thanks for your reply. i know that the depiction "too glossy" is a bit blurry but what notebookcheck basically said was that the display was more reflecting than other displays with truelife or a similar display surface.
again this a blurry description as if you can measure the "level of reflection" on a display, i know. like you said it is just subjective. but i think the review criticized the glossy display especially in combination with a, in the author's opinion, low luminance...
as yet i haven't seen many reflecting displays, so i might not know if the display in the video really is so reflecting but on the first look i thought it to be quite annoying...

I got my xps on the Dec18th and returned it on 19th od Dec. Due to a problem with the bottom screen it was not fixed in place. but I've tried the DVD player . it was loud when it first started then was ok. I don't think it was louder than any other laptop. I guess people expected better than other laptops.
the monitor refluction wasn't too bad. it depends on the light around you.
although I was very upset and mad that I have to wait another 2 weeks for a new one . It was the best thing that could hapen to anyone. I waited 2 days and ... ordered the Xps with 1050X1680 LCD..
