Hi y'all. Just got the 1530 yesterday. Frankly I'm pretty underwhelmed.

But I'm quite upset about the webcam. I've tried to use it and worthless. I had recently bought an HP pavilion that I ultimately returned (crappy keyboard, bad sound) but the webcam and software on the HP were like watching a Scorcese movie compared to the lag, jerky movement and unsychronized sound of the webcam in the xps 1530. Does anybody know of a fix for this? Updated driver? Different software? Please help.

am I the only one who finds an absolutely useless webcam on a $1500 computer unacceptable?

I don't use or care about the webcam. Personally, that thing could be a fake pasted onto the bezel and I wouldn't care. Sorry.

I would like to know too... if the webcam is really that bad I'll reconsider getting the 1530

Mine works amazing... maybe just search for drivers. I don't use webcam much but when I mess around with it it's in sync and smooth.

you're kidding! I just took for granted that it was a crappy camera in everybody's xps. Technical support verified that I did have the most up to date drivers. Now I'm wondering if I should have them change it out.

Can anybody else use the dell webcam center and make a video recording to test it out? When I do so the image lags about a full second behind the sound.

I don't have a m1530 yet but I've been researching them for many months now and I've seen many many complaints about the webcam. The m1530 is almost perfect but it has a couple of flaws that make going all out on one hard for me.

I'll say this, I mentioned above that I bought an HP Pavilion that I ultimately returned to costco, because I hated the keyboard (the m1530 keyboard is superb, I admit), and the 17" screen was just too big for a laptop. But other than those quibblers the ADM 1.8 gh dual processor and 3 gigs of ram were great. The Pavilion seemed faster than the xps I am currently typing on, and it costs $600 less. oh, I did I mention that the webcam was fantastic on the HP?

I have the same complaints about the webcam in the M1530. It has unacceptably low frame rates, and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it.

well I've contacted customer support about this issue. If they can't remedy it--and I would accept a USB external webcam--then I'll probably return xps. I'll keep you informed.

It works great when your in 640x480 mode, but once you go to 3200x2400, you should only be taking pictures.
By the way, what did u expect from this webcam? It's 2.0MP, and only 1mm in depth. 2.0MP External webcams are like 10cm deep.

Mine does not work great in 640 x 480. In fact it looks like ****e. I expected the xps webcam to work at least as well as the pavilion one that I described earlier in the thread.

Your post makes no sense. (1) I am using 640x480, and the frame rate is 10 or below. (2) As the original poster noted, and as I'm sure others will agree, there are built-in notebook webcams that perform a lot better than the one in the M1530.

I find the camera on par with my last Macbook Pro. It is not for capturing movies, it is clear and good enough to get the job done. You want crap, my girlfriends Inspiron 1525 camera is awful.

No way! I was looking at some YouTube videos and what I thought was a video camera was a MBP - it was that smooth and clear. The camera in my M1530 only does 7-8 fuzzy fps at any rez, no matter how small. It's pathetic and whoever said it's great is either mistaken or lying. Post video or it's not happening.

To be frank what more can you expect from a 2.0 megapixel camera? It's an unnecessary commodity in IMHO.

Actually you can get smooth 30FPS. It all depends on how good the lighting is.
I don’t know whether this cause by software or hardware limitation.
