why is 1mm of connector sticking out on the right usb port, and at least 2mm on the other side? is this normal? now I cant just slip the laptop into my bag because the receiver might hookon to the side or something.

the mouse itself is pretty nice though.

Why not just opt for a bluetooth mouse? That hardware wouldn't even require a USB port.

I have VX Nano on my D620 work laptop. It sticks out maybe 1cm or something. Have you tried a different laptop or usb port on a desktop? Could it be the nano receiver?
In terms of BT mouse, I heard the lag is pretty bad, however, I haven't used it myself. -
Looks identical with my VX nano (decent on the right, pretty far on the left), I just assumed we have shallow USB ports.
I figured it was more appropriate in the right USB port since I'm right handed, and I definitely think it sticks out so little on that side that you don't have to worry about it. -
My VX receiver stick out a bit too; so i put it in a USB port on the back of the notbook. Out of sight, out of mind

There is no USB port at the back for the m1330.

right.........ORLY

I'm willing to bet if you plug other USB devices into the same port, you'll see that they all stick out the same distance.
-
I dont want to bet, I just want to know if everyone else is experiencing the same shallow usb ports. seems like it isnt just my problem then.
-
I have the same problem on my work computer which is a Dell XPS m1210!
It's the inherent design. -
it would be nice if our ports are offset inside like the thinkpad x series.

Well they aren't....so suck it up!

You can just cut receiver a little bit. 1mm won't make ant difference. Just do it very careful.

is nano vx comfortable ?

I agree that our plugs are set at different depths on the motherboards. USB plugs are set too shallow, which means connected plugs stick out. My Firewire plug was set too deep, which meant poor contact and my camcorder not even being seen by Windows. Dell decided it was a motherboard issue, replaced it, same thing. I finally realized what was happening, so careful trimming of my Firewire wire's rubber surround (almost 2mm) solved the issue.
Someone suggested you trim down your Nano's USB plug. I would NOT do that. Trimming useless rubber is one thing; hacking away at the actual connector is another. -
My usb port on the right seems to be very tight, the one on the left is fine. I don;t have any issue with items sticking to far out though.
-
This must be a Dell specific issue as I have a Dell and an HP and the VX nano on the HP is almost flush with the case. It sticks out the same as yours on my older Dell. It seems that the motherboard/innards make the USB ports stick out more than others on a Dell?
I agree I would be a little annoyed too. On my HP I leave the VX receiver on all the time and it fits in the case without ever catching on anything.
BTW, for those interested in the mouse, it's great and the wheel is a free-flow type where you can spin it really fast and it keeps going with pages scrolling until you touch it again and it freezes the page on that instant. Plus it comes with a nice carrying case and many places were selling it recently in Canada for $39. -
Though granted, having a thicker laptop like the 1400 makes it less likely that an protruding dongle will be damaged. I can understand why it would be a problem in a significantly thinner laptop.

Actually cutting USB plug is pretty safe as actual connectors are placed deeper in the plug. Of course it depends on connector, but you can always experiment with old USB flash drives or cables.
