lcd sceen seems gone, trying to make sure everything works before I try to pay fo another one. the questions that I have is how much does a new lcd screen usually cost and also is it worth it considering this laptop is worth maybe 350 bucks.

I just need basic laptop with a cd burner, I don't game or use any extensive programs at all. I've had this laptop since march 06 and its given me no problems yet.

    what should I do?

Check with Dell first home much a replacement will cost you. Then look at how much a nice new lappy would cost you and make your pick. A new screen will be cheaper then a new one I think, but its up to you.

dell said 3 or 4 hundred. I checked ebay and found some screens for 160 but once again what if its not the lcd but the motherboard? I got white and black lines running up half the screen.

I really don't need to spend 500 bucks on a new laptop but it seems that's probably the best option since fixing this is a uncertainty.
