I can't for the life of me find the little icon they are talking about in my manual...it says it should be on the task bar but it's not there...any suggestions?

Are you talking about Quickset? (allows you to choose a power management scheme)

If you don't have it, you need to install it from the Drivers & Utilities CD.

On my taskbar it is a bluish 'Q' and a yellow 'S' icon. if you don't have it there. Make sure it's in your 'programs' list. If not, it's not installed. You might need to go get your Drivers CD and install or reinstall it. You can also DL it from Dell's website.
