I'm looking to get a new laptop and have decided on dell because of the price, the problem is with the current deals I can get xps 1530 a vostro 1700 or a inspiron 17" with a similar spec of the roughly the same money.

What are the differences in build quality?

DO they all have the same 8600 card, are the screens the same?

    What would people buy?

Is there a language barrier or do you actually think thats helpful to anyone? When you just said "get the asus :D" in my thread it was completely unhelpful and I'd wager a guess that this time around.....well the same thing lol.

The main differences I can see are that the XPS is lighter, sleeker, might have a few more options available(not 100% on that though).

If you dont care how fugly it is and you really wanna save some cash go vostro.

The inspirion's seem to be kind of low end in just about every sense of the word so I'd probably steer away from those but to each his own I guess.

P.S I just spec'd a pretty damn nice 1530 using the new coupons for $1250 shipped. That includes the T9300, 8600m GT, LED LCD, 7200RPM HDD, AND vista home premium. Tough to beat that price I think...even at the outlet(1250 is for it new lol).

The xps uses ddr3 in its 8600 where as the others are ddr2. (It is faster). plus it just looks nicer. I would get it if they are the same price.

I must admit the xps is a 15.4" screen where as the over 2 are 17". Do the xps have the same type of screen as the vostro and inspiron in the UK?

XPS has a better GPU, as already mentioned. The 8600M GT in it is GDDR3, while the Vostro's and Inspiron's 8600M GT is DDR2. GDDR3 is faster than DDR2, so yeah connect the dots.

The XPS is also a smaller, sleeker machine. If you don't need a 17" screen, get the XPS M1530. I'm assuming it's not as problem ridden as it was before, with lesser and lesser rants about grainy screens nowadays, I assume that's the case.

As I understand it only one company supplies the LED display so would it be logical to assume that you would have less difficulties in securing a decent screen of that type? I know with the other resolutions its basically like pulling names out of a hat to see what your gonna get but if only one is supplying that screen.....shouldnt it be less chance of a dud? Even if only by a little?

I've also heard(I dont seem to KNOW anything lol) that the tech support is different for the higher end systems like the XPS, different as in better, but seeing as how Dell seems to get panned in the tech support area anyways do you really want to have their bottom tier tech's working on your issues? lol

If your looking to do some decent gaming then the XPS 1530 is the way to go. I own 2 Vostro's a 1700 and a 1500 I recently purchased at the DeLL Outlet Store for the cheap.

The Vostro 1700 came with a 8600m GT and the card is fast enough. So much so I can easily run most of my racing sims like rFactor. IMO it runs it as good as my 7 month old desktop which I built myself.

If gaming on the laptop is a very small piece of the equation i'd then go for the best value. Keep in mind the Inspiron and Vostro are identical in build quality.
