the specs are as the following:

15.4" WXGA LCD
1GB DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimms (my dad let me get a WHOLE gig of ram!!)
ATI MOBILITY RADEON® X300 64MB HyperMemory
60 GB hard drive (I think its 5400 RPM)
Microsoft XP Home
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
= $1238.79 total!

Congrats.
And yea, DELL installs alot of 'crapware' but remember that they don't include the XP disc, you'll have to make your own -

Congrats on your purchase!
You've got a great performer there - 1GB of RAM and the Pentium M will do anything you ask of it.
Let us know your thoughts when you get it! -
estimated shipping date is Nov. 1...
i dont think i can wait that long...hehe. oh well, hopefully it'll be worth the wait -
i6000d is an amazing machine, i love mine to death.. i got the 128 meg ati card and i love it, i just wish it was a bit more powerfull.. i have been trying to see about asking around about trading in my i6000d and my gaming desktop, but no one seems interested.. and besides, i get awsome battery life, good portablility.. and i can play WoW really well on it.. i average 38 frames with most stuff on high, which i dont think is too horrible.. and then when im home i can use my desktop to bust out the extreme prettyness.. and i still get my 4-5 hour battery life, and a awsome multimedia machine with plenty of ram to do loads of stuff at once.. this thing is great.. i love it very much
-
I just got my 6000 in the mail yesterday, working great, I love it. Mine came earlier than expected too, maybe you won't have to wait until november.
I'm in the process of getting the cds I need to reformat it, then I'm going to hook it up to my new wireless router, and THEN I'll start really using it.
You'll be happy with it. -
We just bought three i6000's at work last month, pretty solid machines. Seem to strike a good balance of being a notebook and a desktop replacement.
-
If you want a XP disc and set of Dell drivers just contact them, its very easy, i got my laptop a few weeks ago, all i did was email them and say that i am using this laptop for business trips and will not have internet access, therefor i want to make sure i have all of the indivisual drivers on a CD, they will send them to you, its not hard.
-
Maybe it's just me, but I always get a copy of the OS and drivers included with every Dell system I've ever bought for work or for home use, and its a lot. :S Is this not a normal thing?
-
when was the last time you bought one?
they stopped sending them around march/april of this year. -
-
I just received mine a few days ago... I ordered the OS backup cd for $10, so they sent that. They also sent a copy of the drivers cd as well.
-
-
jw, is the hard drive on the i6000d 5400 RPM?
-

you can buy a 5400 or 7200 HDD
-
The Laptop Came
-
What do you think of it?
-
its great! except i cant connect to the internet.. help?
-
Can't connect? Hmmm, check connections (obviously). So something must be blocking it if all wires are secure. Check your firewall (comes with Dell Crapware) and make sure the settings are not restricting your internet access. Second, if that does not work, perhaps something in bios, but i'm not the person to ask for that one....someone else will surely continue my message......
-
Also, Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections> Make Sure that to the right of the little symbol/icon there, it says "Connected" and not "Disconnected" or "Restricted". If it is anything but connected, right click and select either "enable" (if that option is there). Or select "repair" (a message will confirm whether the repair worked or not). Or click "disable" (if you ARE enabled to begin with) and then re-right click and select "enable". (Basically a 'refresh').
Goodluck. -
Yay!!! Thank You Momo
-
ok...I turn my i6000 on and a few seconds after it logs me on, everything just disappears except the background. and i mean everything including the taskbar, start menu, desktop items...I know there's something wrong here, but... i dont feel like calling up a dell representative. help? again
-
Hmm bizzare...try right clicking and playing around with the windows settings ect. Or try ctrl+alt+del and check if the processes are running. I've never heard of anything like that, weird.
If all else fails, use the windows restore program on Windows XP. Before those few seconds are up, (or just press the windows button on keyboard)>Start>Programs>Accesorries>System Tools>System Restore and choose a restore date prior to this problem then the computer will prompt you to restart. (Save anything on external drive that you have worked on between the restore date and now)
After that restart, it will prompt you "Keep these new settings" or "go back to system restore and choose another date"; wait & see if same thing hapens, if it doesn't, keep the new settings.
Goodluck -
is it freezing/crashing or do you have taskbar and desktop icons hidden?
try booting into safe mode to see if it can actually get into windows. -
i can get the windows task mangager to show up and yes, the processes are running. I tried to do the system restore thing, but it just closes after i open it.
i dont think its freezing because i can get the task manager up.
how do i get into safe mode? -
oh yeah, i cant right click
and by the way, i love the power button =] -
i went into the BIOS setup and it says that the video memory for the ATi X300 is 32 MB. i thought it was supposed to be 64? sorry i'm asking so many questions but some things are just confusing
-
-
not much. faster than the toshiba i'm using rite now
-
Try starting in Safe Mode. (Hmm, can't recall the exact button you would press during start up. DEL takes you to BIOS right, so that can't be it) But if you can get into Safe Mode then you can do the system restore from there HOPEFULLY.
-
-
last time, I waited around 5 minutes doing stuff on this computer (the Toshiba)
-
omg, safe mode works. now wut
-
yay!, i noticed that it asks you if you want it to run on safe mode or if you want to use system restore, and i told it system restore, and voila! it works again!!
-
Yeah, system restore is a good thing to have because in case you make a harmful mistake, you can like go back in time and un do it. Pretty nice feature but i have it on a min.
-
Nice to hear you problem has been SOLVED! Just shout anytime you have anymore questions/concerns
.
-
well, the font i use for AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) looks different from the other comp. I use arial on AIM for both computers, but on the Dell, its looks more...blocky? how do i make it look more smooth?
-
Double check and make sure your font isn't on BOLD. Disable that if so. Otherwise, must just be that font size thing again and DO NOT play around with it again or we are left at square one ;p.
-
do you have cleartype enabled?
-
may i ask wut cleartype is?
-
cleartype smooths out screen fonts...
right click desktop > appearance > effects > "use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" > check the box and choose "ClearType" from the drop down list. -
Ahh, just tried that out myself. Yes the letters are now a bit chunky. Good to know though.
-
oooh, it worked! thank you drumfu
yay! ordered my Dell Inspiron 6000D
