Nvidia is going to milk with its new Max-Q graphics first![]()

New uArch built with dx12 from ground up, massive performance increase and geforce gtx has already hit the 4 digit range, I wouldn't be surprised if they did a new naming/numbering scheme -
Nvidia's gotta stay out in front of the AMD Vega.
Who knows, we might get Volta GPU's this year!! -
Yes, but it is not certain that the Big boy Volta Gpu for mobile are coming this year

Why not? It's only early May... 7+ months left in 2017

You know
Why should they?

They have to milk the high-end, first.
- Compute nodes, password breakers, supercomputers
- Then release a NEW TITAN X (Volta) $1200. Claim it's not a gaming card. Arguably (IMO) this is what the most recent TITAN Xp *should* have been, based on past TITAN cards (I think). But what's another $1200 (ea) between friends, right?
- GTX 2070, GTX 2080
- Oops. GTX 2080 $800 slightly edges TITAN X (Volta) $1200
- Release more powerful TITAN X. $1200
- GTX 2050, GTX 2060.
- And the baller-on-the-budget with a whimpy-PSU and limited-chassis cooling card: GTX 2050Ti
Then hit up the -Ti hold-outs:
- Release GTX 2080Ti $800 (smashes everything, including the TITAN from 3 months ago, lol)
- Release updated TITAN Xv (Volta) $1200
- Price drop the 2080 and shave pennies off of the 2070.

Oh, I don't think the 2080ti (or 1180ti) will release in 2017, that's for sure in 2018, but I think a 2080 (or 1180) has a good chance of making it out by the end of 2017.
Originally I voted for consumer Volta release in 1st half of 2018, but now that Nvidia seems bent on getting out Volta before Vega's high end models get released, full speed ahead, I think Nvidia could actually get out the next generation Volta desktop GPU's in 2017, and maybe even announce the mobile Volta GPU's for release in early 2018.
It could be a good idea for Nvidia to do this for a number of reasons, including better yield on the 12nm process, factoring in economies of scale by switching over early on - to make their V100's cheaper to make along with a consumer version.
Besides, Volta's development costs need to be made back, and I think starting earlier is better, no need to milk Pascal when Volta is here

Unashamed Ti Holdout here. This doesn't bother me at all.

I'm thinking desktop early 2018, mobile Q2 earliest, but still exciting. -
IDK, Jensen is about 6 months early with the Volta announcement, I think Nvidia might release sooner than expected

Possible, back to combing through leaks for a while then I guess.
-
Volta was announced offiicially, but depending on the type of memory and Vega launch is still fairly likely to be early 2018. We were talking about this on the NBR discord.
-

It really is the most plausible explanation to me. Then they can launch it with GDDR6. -
The GDDR6 may not fly with the first Volta's, it's not required, an OC'd DDR5x outta run at 13-14ghz, and that's the entry point for DDR6.
Nvidia could elect to put out consumer Volta GPU's with DDR5x this year, maybe within a much shorter time than expected.
The shipping time for the V100 was supposed to be in 2018, and now it's September'ish, so that can also move up the consumer Volta.
Or it might all run into mid-2018
-
-
Glad you had inside info, the rest of us were guessing early to mid 2018
Volta: NVIDIA's Next Generation GPU Architecture (2017-2018)
So you thought Q4 shipments, and now Nvidia has moved up shipments to Q3, still 3 months earlier than expected.
I still think it's 6-8 months early, but then again I was working on info publicly available. -
I wouldn't expect consumer level cards until at least a year from now.
DukeCLR, Aroc, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Yeah, IDK, Nvidia's actually shown Volta, is shipping the custom server version, and I think also showed the PCIE server version, so it's just a "step to the right" to release and ship the consumer version.
I don't think Nvidia can let that much engineering investment sit stagnant and not earning back investment.
There's too much risk for AMD to release something that makes Volta irrelevant over a 1.5+ year delay.
It might really take AMD that long, but still...
-
Haha sorry that may have come across wrong. We talk abt this all the time on the discord. I don't think it's really insider info, though I don't really remember lol. Didn't say any names at least.
I just meant I had expected Tesla cards this year (I guessed Q4 I guess that's wrong).
I still want consumer asap but I'm betting yeah early to mid next year.DukeCLR, hmscott, Aroc and 1 other person like this. -

Guys what 1080 TI is Best now? Gigabyte Xtreme or Zotac AMP Extreme?

From memory, I recall that on Guru3D review, the Zotac AMP Extreme was way up there at the top. I'll link the review, yep, it's right at the top:

The full water cooled Zotac looks great, no reviews - or even any availability, looking forward to it

The new Asus Poseidon GTX 1080ti is *both* open loop water cooled *and/or* air cooled, comes equipped for both.

Get a FE , power mod it and save a bunch of cash
Obviously for people who have a water block.Aroc likes this. -
with that power mode how standard cooling will handle ths?
-
Not suggested to use standard cooling with the power mod, mainly because the VRM's get pushed really hard.

GPU Z now uses ICX sensors, now all we need is HW info to use them.

Looks almost identical to the Corsair/MSI model, wonder if it's still cooling the VRAM directly with the water loop or with the fan like the CorsairAtma likes this. -

I'll pass I think. 3 fans or AIO for me, I've got plenty of case space. -

I think he said just a few minor changes from FE, guess making an AIO out of the FTW would end up being too expensive. -

It seems like with these Pascal GPU's you really only get a max of 2100mhz, the key is if you can keep it really cool, like 40-50c, it will transform into a solid OC without dips, which really helps for smooth game play and low 1%/.01% FPS drops.
So it won't get a higher OC, but it can get a stable locked in high OC with better cooling and stable power.
Robbo99999, DukeCLR and Papusan like this. -
I don't mean higher OC, but if this small package can hold max Boost(as other cards with bigger package)
Sorry my english
hmscott likes this. -
It seems to me that cooling isn't as much of a factor in what OCs people are getting, all the aftermarket cards seem to be in the same range, with my FPS capped at 139 I'm getting really smooth play. Two days ago it was in the 60's here then yesterday it was a bit warmer, in both cases I was able to get the same smooth results, the only difference was a slight increase in fan RPMs and the speed never went above %50 with stock fan curves so to me the interesting aspect is the smaller size. With M.2 slots and this card one could build a really compact gaming machine.Papusan, bloodhawk, Atma and 1 other person like this.

That's similar to what I've seen, if you don't mind heat and noise you can get everything to the same place.bloodhawk likes this. -
That's still within range, but it really only shows up at the borderline starting with graphed results, sampling often enough to catch the frequency drops.
Wait till summer really sets higher temps in motion
