Hi It's the first time I've ever used an SSD.
1. I do not have an adaptor tray for the 2.5" SSD , is it just fine I have it tightened with plastic straps instead of any screws or adaptors?
2. Since SSD is now still more expensive than HDD, should I download files directly to storage HDD instead of the SSD? Since I believe the bottleneck of the broadband speed shouldn't make SSD much faster during the downloads. Am I thinking correctly?
3. Could a failing motherboard or PSU damage the SSD? I had a bad PSU but got replaced

1. Both my HTPC and my gaming desktop have SSDs without a tray, I use little Velcro stickers to keep them in place so I'm sure your straps will do fine.
2. I set up up my all my downloads to go to my storage drive mostly to save space, I never really thought about bandwidts.
3. When it comes to PC components I would say nothing is safe from a failing PSU or Motherboard. -
1) Wherever you can place it, SSDs don't really care. I have my server's SSD taped to the side of its PSU.
2) You're right about the bottlenecks. Personally I have my downloads folder set to my HDDs as well.
3) Failing PSU/motherboard can take out anything/everything connected to it. With a decent quality PSU/motherboard though, this is quite rare and I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just be sure you have a backup plan in place.i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -

Just don't leave it dangling inside the case. I've seen people do that and it makes me itch under my skin just looking at it.
Prices will be coming down now that nvme is more popular but still the cheapest configuration is at the moment to use a small SSD for the OS/whatever you're working on or playing at the moment, and a big storage HDD.
Don't assume it's safe. A failing mobo can damage everything attached, or nothing. But if you suspect yours is failing, address it quickly and you may prevent damage to other components.i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -
SSD's are pretty robust. Don't worry about it.smoking2k, Support.2@XOTIC PC and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
