I have been reading specs etc. Is the 8gb storage limit hardware related or software related? I want to load this thing up with 1 250gb SSD for OS use and 4 14 or 16tb drives in hotswap bays for storge for my business files.

Eh it should work with any size hard drives, bios limited drive sizes hasn't been an thing for a long time now. A quick search shows people running 4TB drives in it, if that works than any size should.

That's what I thought. Now, I thought it had a drive bay inside for OS and 4 hotswappables, but I have it open on my desk now and it only has the 4 hotswappable bays. I am looking now to see if I could get a SSD in there for OS and keep the 4 drive bays for 14 or so tb drives.

upon further inspection there are only 4 bays, no extra connections. I guess raid 5 with 4 16tb drives will do the trick. I will have to load the OS on the raid in order to run it. That will give me 48tb of storage. Good for a little while.

Do you have a machine that's on 24/7?

Might be better to just get a DAS and connect it to that machine for shared files.
