I'm beyond excited for two new monitors.
The Acer XB272-HDR and Asus PG27UQ.

The feature set on these monitors is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention current hardware totally can't even drive it.
Look at these beautiful specs:
- 27 Inches Screen
- 3840×2160 Resolution
- IPS Panel
- 16:9 Aspect Ratio
- 144Hz
- Nvidia G-Sync
- HDR10
- Quantum-Dot Technology
- Brightness: Up to 1000cd/m2 Peak
I'm waiting for hopefully Volta cards to come out this summer (anyone have good info on if we are likely to get Pascal R2 vs Volta vs nothing?) and sli the two highest end non-Titan ones.

I am @Galm for PC gaming for sure, but in a couple of years. For now I would be very much interested in one for hooking it up with my PS4 pro.
I really don't use tv anymore for gaming purposes and much prefer and have my current gaming done ( PS4 and PC) on the Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q. I thought about getting a 4K TV with HDR support, but with this Asus announcement I decided to wait and get this monitor when it is available as it is exactly what I want. -
Interesting. The PS4 Pro is no where near strong enough to run 4K well though. AFAIK the PS4 Pro 4K stuff is gonna be mostly 30fps. 144fps is way way too high. I would think maybe ( maybe) the next gen consoles could do it. But I'd rather they go high refresh rate first.
-
it's nice that it will become available, and all, but we won't even be able to run 4k @ 144FPS.
-
1080 Ti sli or 1180 sli should be able to do it
It's possible. Just not cheap. My 980 Tis do 4K 60 without too much trouble. -
I prefer 3440x1440 at 34". Give me that at 144Hz or even 120Hz and I'll be very happy.

Nothing wrong with that. Probably in the near future.
I'm expecting to use scaling, I mostly want it for crispy smooth gameplay. -

Seconded. -
We are already most of the way to that. 100Hz is still a great improvement over 60.

True. I'll always be a refresh over resolution guy, but if we can have both, I won't actually complain. -
ASUS ROG PG258Q 24.5-inch 1920x1080 TN G-SYNC
BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 24.5-inch 1920x1080 TN No
AOC AGON AG251FZ 25-inch 1920x1080 TN FreeSync
Acer Predator XB251HQT 24.5-inch 1920x1080 TN G-SYNC
So then those are for you! 240Hz. -

we'll have to see when those GPU's do finally come out.
as of right now, Titan XP's in SLI can't even achieve 144FPS @4k. imagine what HDR might do to GPU's as well.hmscott likes this. -
Why does a wider color gamut affect gpu performance?
Titan XPs in sli should be close if your willing to skimp on reasonable settings (like high AA, reflection AA etc...) as my cards perform the same as about 1 of those. -
well, that's why i put "might" lol. i wasn't sure if HDR would affect performance.
people that actually spend money on top of the line GPU's usually don't want to lower important graphic settings. i, personally, don't care about stuff like hair settings, but reflections, shadows, lighting, etc are a definite must.hmscott likes this. -
I said AA for both because at 4K you basically can't even tell. There's like a slight difference between 8x MSAA and FXAA in a lot of games. All the other stuff I keep on maxed. Ironically reflections are often more realistic on a lower setting. In real life shadows aren't crispy clear because the sun isn't a point it's a circle overhead. So lower shadows a tad really doesn't break realism for me personally.

Could this finally be the holy grail of gaming monitors???

My Acer Predator X34 can run 90Hz, so I guess I shouldn't complain, because my 980 Ti can barely keep up to 90Hz in most games anyhow. But that would just force me to upgrade to a faster GPU.
Eyeing the 1080 Ti, although not sure if I can justify the cost if it's going to be $800-900 as it seems it will be.
I really have a hard time going with TN any more. I just can't handle the poor viewing angles and "washed out" look of them with dark/black colors. I need IPS.DukeCLR likes this. -
I'm really not happy that gpus seemed to jump a hundred or so dollars up. I got my 980 Ti sli for the price of 1 Titan XP and the sli I would need for this monitor is going to be stupid expensive unless Volta releases around the same time.

The lower end might still be attractive. For 900 it had better have a built in coolant loop or something. -
The lower end of what? Volta?

TI cards. I seem to recall 980TIs were only about 750-800, a 1080TI IMO should stay in that range unless it has a loop or makes you sandwiches or something,DukeCLR likes this. -
Oh, yeah I think it'll be higher than that. The 1080 was higher than that when it first came out. I'd be surprised if the 1080 Ti was a similar price to the 1080. Also the 980 Tis were 650.

How much of a difference does G-Sync make? I never see tearing on my computer and I have two 980s in SLI but I generally runin 4k so it would be under 60fps most of the time. Is the main purpose of G-Sync for high fps?
-
I find it helpful at both refresh rates. Under 60 the biggest benefit is stopping stuttering. Normally dropping under 60fps introduces inconsistencies that look very jumpy. GSync fixes that. Some games also tend to have more tearing than others, and it'll fix that too.
Anyone else hyped that 4K 144Hz IPS GSync is on the horizon?
