I don't think I like looking down at my Laptop screen, I imagin having a regular desktop monitor would be better for one's posture/neck.

The best computer monitor is the 21" Sony Trinitron CRT, but they don't make those anymore and this setup is going to be more for having a work area than for top-notch gaming. Perhaps a wall-mounted, twin-monitor setup (if my laptop can do twin).

So, I have to ask: What are some of the best and cheapest flat-screen monitors out there right now?

    Thank you.

    No responses..

Huh, and I thought monitors were part of most people's desktop setup. I guess everybody just uses VR goggles now.

Because best and cheapest just don't belong in the same sentence, it is pretty much impossible to give any answer that would make sense.

Some would define cheap as $500 while others would say $100 is cheap, so you'd probably help your cause if you defined cheap a little more concretely.

There are lots of factors to consider when purchasing a monitor. Unless we clearly know your specific use case, it's impossible to make any sort of recommendation.

Well, I just picked up the infinity edge 24" dell touchscreen for 389 Cdn. I think it's AWESOME. Colors are much better on it, than my HP 2311. Plus, touchscreen is a blast to use.

Anyone asking and saying a CRT is the best is akin to just Trolling more or less. Since one doesn't give specs as to what they are expecting and how much screen space they need and what they plan on doing gives very little for anyone to know what to do. If you want full multiple Flat Screen you laptop isn't going to drive two or more unless it has a SLI or High power GPU to be able to do that. Otherwise if you want actual power user one should consider a Desktop setup with multiple screens to do what they need-laptop are very limited to their hardware and if you don't move alot and need the screen size you should really consider Desktop with multiple screen to do a power user setup.

I have a 22” AOC and a 24” Acer monitor, both IPS and 1080p, that I bought from Bestbuy for ~$100 each. I do both gaming and work on them, and they work just fine for me and are fairly cheap.

However, like the other people here have said, it’s hard to give you a good recommendation without some kind of detail as to what you are looking for. What’s your price range? What display resolutions are you wanting to look at? TN vs IPS? What sort of response times are you considering? 60Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, etc? Physical size of the monitor? Do you need VESA mounts? Minor features that you’d like (for example, my Acer has a magnetic base that I can put screws, etc on without them rolling away)? So on and so forth.

Or, if those 21” Sony CRTs are actually the best monitors ever, maybe look for some of those on eBay?

    Price range:
Around $100 if it is a good monitor. Just under $200 if it is amazing.
    Resolution:
Aren't flat-screens stuck at a "native resolution"? Idk. The laptop I am using is at 1920x1200 ("17in") and it's kind of small, but I like having a lot of room.
    TN vs IPS:
    I have no idea.
    VESA:
    Mounting? That would be nice.
    Response Time:
You mean "refresh rate"? CRTs are around 0ms response time IIRC. Refresh rate frequency should be higher-the-better, is the a reason to go lower?

Yeah, they are getting old and hard to find. Even if I found one it would be hard to know if was any good anymore. Too bad. I've been on flat-screens for about 3yrs now (Laptop and office) and they aren't as rich, blur with fast movement (gaming) and can sometimes make your eyes feal wierd. It's like a step backwards.

But I need office space right now more than I do the best visual experience. I've seen offices with cool looking twin-screen setups on mounts (ex: Varidesk), but I think I like looking head-on better so single-monitor would be best.. with maybe a 7" auxillary screen in the corner? lol.

    Thank you for the response.
