    EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 to VGA CRT

    Hello,

    Bought a used gaming PC with one of these for the g-card:

    I think it works, will find out later. Right now I am having trouble with getting my monitor (ViewSonic G90f CRT) to connect to the card.

    I tried using a HDMI-to-VGA converter (this one) but Win10 and CPUID dont even see the card, just "generic Microsoft display" or something and Mint boots to a black screen. Occasionally the monitor will go to "no signal" and back on.

    Connecting the computer to the large flatscreen TV via a HDMI cable in the living room works fine: Mint boots up and the graphics card shows up in the device list.

    Why didn't my HDMI-to-VGA converter work?
    Should I try a DisplayPort-to-VGA or DVI-D-to-VGA converter?

    The people at the hardforums ( where there is a thread dedicated to using the awesome Sony FW900 monitor) recommend something like "delock 87685".

    Well, if the system works with other displays.... do other systems work with the display that's being stubborn? It could be a bad adapter too.

    Anytime you use a video adapter it will see it as Generic display. I would use a DVI to VGA adapter first. Adapter are known problematic connections when used as adapters. So unless you got direct connection to the VGA it will be always seen as Generic and even at VGA it will be still list as Generic. VGA isn't as tech innovations compared to DVI, HDMI, DPA. So don't expect alot from VGA monitors nowdays. Also being CRT might also be the problem as well. That is my guess from having used CRT to LCD monitors.
