One my biggest gripes about my Desktop CPU which has an ASUS X-99 Motherboard is that it takes about 15 to 20 seconds from the moment you press the power button until you see the initial ASUS Splash Screen, then it takes another 10 seconds for Windows to boot.

I tried the latest BIOS 1801 and the previous BIOS 1702 but no luck.

Then I researched online and this seems like a common problem with the X-99 Chipset platform as it requires to train the memory everytime it starts up.

Well, since I know I have stable settings for my 64 GB of RAM using an XMP Profile of 2400MHz. I disabled the RAM Training upon every restart and this has brought the cold boot time from 20 seconds down to 5-8 seconds! Now this system is finally useable! Before that it was just a nightmare I would try to avoid restarting or shutting down just to not be staring at a black screen for so long! By the time I would see the ASUS Splash Screen other computers would have already been logged into Windows and using programs.

To disable RAM Training upon every restart, go to your BIOS, then go to Ai Tweaker > DRAM Timings and set your options as per the below illustrations:

you mean it didn't decrease your boot time??

It did for me by a whooping 10 seconds and I have been running the system like this for 4 days with not a single error message or issue......seems like my RAM is well trained :D

PS: do you sure you have the right XMP Profile and are not overclocking your RAM by any chance?

ASUS makes some buggy boards... I have a Maximus VI Formula and every time I turn it on, the Windows boot screen freezes for about 10 seconds before it drops to the desktop. It also turns itself off and back on every time I power it up from completely shut down but it doesn't throw an error and its totally stable after that.

I am in the process of removing everything that has ASUS on it in my house.....

Enough is enough. got bitten by their bad ROG laptops 5 times already, got bitten by buying the latest AC87U and AC3200 routers when they first came out and they were complete garbage that keeps disconnecting all the time..... and now got bitten by this motherboard from what I've read on the web many people have this slow boot issue.....

I'll never buy anything that has ASUS on it anymore. They used to make the best motherboards 8 years ago, now it's complete junk with 0 quality control......

There's not really anything better. Gigabyte makes some of the worst motherboards around, regardless of how they brag about features and ASUS boards have more features than any other brand. I mean my board has heat spreaders with plugs for an optional liquid cooling solution all over the board... Its the heaviest motherboard I've ever seen lol. Its called ROG Armor - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_FORMULA/

The board works fine, its just the boot freeze that is irritating. ASUS also went against Intel and released a patch that let my 4790K be usable on it instead of forcing me to get a VII board.

Right, I was thinking EVGA for my next motherboard, please give me your opinion on EVGA boards? I mean Im very happy with my 2 EVGA 980Tis but don't know how good are their motheboards compared to ASUS

Asus definitely has QC issues, but I'd say they have the best hardware+bios combo overall. Gigabyte makes decent boards from time to time, but apparently the bios sucks, so great hardware is ruined by mediocre/terrible firmware. EVGA heard complaints about the bios, same with MSI.

Yeah the new way didn't help at all.

I am not running XMP at all. Just have my memory set to 2666mhz which is exactly what the memory is rated at.

I don't know, I think Gigabyte has good BIOS. In fact, that was the reason I went with Gigabyte. They come second in terms of BIOS compared to ASUS. The worst I saw has to be either ASRock or MSI.

I got an ASRock X99 motherboard and its BIOS is as feature rich as the Asus ones. My last machine was Asus and had a multitude of issues with it. Not saying I won't with this one, but so far this one has been quite impressive.

from the moment you press the power button.......

    1) how long does it take till you see the Windows loading splash screen

    2) how long does it take in total from power on till you see the desktop in Windows?

I head very good things about this ASRock motherboard for the X99

PS: how easy is it to overclock? the X-99 deluxe makes it very easy even for noobies like me to overclock......I just changed the CPU voltage from Auto to Offset of 0.215V and disabled the VR Effeciency stuff and I was done
