I want to buy a gaming desktop on a budget of $1100 or lower, preferrably. I want your recommendations on buying one.

I need one with these components:
    - Intel Core i7 Skylake
    - Nvidia 970
    -8GB ram
    - 27" monitor glossy IPS screen

I need to also be able to upgrade parts in the future. Let me know what gaming desktop you recommend based on my needs .

Well, this is more appropriate for the Desktop Hardware section.

What case form factor do you like? Any plan to add more PCIe cards later?

Why do you need the i7? Most people don't (although some people do). I would also go with an R9 390 instead of a 970 as they perform almost the same but the 390 pulls ahead above 1080p and has double the vram.

I think I would try and go for an i5 6600k and an R9 Fury, as that is a lot more gaming power.

    More than double... 3.5G... :p

+1 for i5 if gaming is the primary concern.

Well, how comfortable are you building you're own desktop? It's not too hard, and it'll be essentially 100% upgradable in the future.

AMD has not improved driver stability for me to recommend that for anyone right now. I'd stay away from AMD til they fix this problem. Since AMD 12.10 driver they have been poor QC on driver quality. I got a MSI GTX 970OC 4G and it runs better and more stable then a R9 390 so I will refute your 390 claims.

Personally I haven't had any issues with my AMD GPU (XFX R9 280x, don't have the driver version on top of my head, will update when I get home).

I mean... I have immediate access to a system with an R9 390 right now, and I haven't had any issues with drivers, while Nvidia drivers on the other hand have been causing problems like freakin bricking gpus recently, so your mileage may vary. I've never been a fan of anecdotal evidence so I don't think either of us have valid claims.

Overall I've been hearing that both companies drivers have been alright right now, neither are particularly good or bad at the moment.

In the past AMDs were much worse but they've been more solid for a while now.

Both GPUs will run out of juice sooner than they reach their VRAM limit for 1080/60.
But, in terms of sticking it to nGreedia, 390 probably is a better option, though not sure how it overclocks and how much power it consumes, if that's important.

I agree with people who suggest on getting i5 instead of i7.
Get 390 or 970, whichever is cheaper/you like better.
Also, what kind of form factor you want, OP? Will you OC?

Hi guys. I really appreciate your answers. But based on what I've read and discussed with others, the AMD 390 has had problems. So I'll stick with Nvidia 970.

Below are my parts for my desktop. Please let me know what you guys think!

    - CPU Intel Core i5-6600
    - Motherboard: MSI B150M MORTAR Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    - Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
    - Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    - Video Card: Nvidia 970 Video Card
    - Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
    - Power Supply: EVGA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

OP. The AMD GPU does not have any problems. If anything the nVidia one will give you more headaches.

For 1080p then by all means go for the 970 IF you really dont want an AMD card for whatever reason. However anything above that, dont even consider the 970 unless if it a lot cheaper and you are willing to compromise on eye candy or the games use less than 3.5GB vram at any given time.

You should also provide the resolution the system will be required to run.

EDIT: Sorry if the post seemed a bit agressive, unfortunately I had the misfortune of noticing an old message from a longtime member threatening me over a misunderstanding. Ended up getting a bit annoyed over the AMD had issues part given the fact that the opposite is actually true.

My post still stands though. The rest of the build is quite nice though. Only thing is you might want to consider purchasing an aftermarket cooler for the GPU in the future.

I would definitely wait for pascal at this point just to see what it actually offers if anything

It will definitely offer something :D

I suggest waiting only due to the better efficiency and support for dx12.

28nm and dx11/dx12 tier support seems like a buy now.
