Intel Gaming GPUs by 2020

Hi guys,

by randomly searching for Intel's upcomming GPUs I found this news here (it is in german, so may use translator):

What do you guys think, will Intel be able to manage this and be a competitor for Nvidia and AMD?

We need more competition out there other than Nvidia and AMD. But not only that, we need a company that's going to be able to compete for the top dog position that Nvidia has been sitting at for far too long.

If Intel starts making GPU's, I hope they make an equivalent to "K series" chips to where the user is in control and not some cancerous, limiting Vbios like Pascal. We bought it, we should be able to control it, plain and simple!

 

I believe the 5th biggest and wealthiest company existing (Intel) is capable of competing with Nvidia and AMD, even though I wonder how AMD is going to be a competitior any longer, I mean their best cards can't even beat Nvidia's mid range anymore ... their GPU future doesn't look so good!

Well Intel aims to use some really complicated and advanced technology they invented, so I wonder if it would be wise to give a customer full controll over it.
Nvidia and AMD aren't doing it, because GPUs are logically way more complicated than a simple CPU, so you can easily brick it and also to prevent others to read into their "secrets" like how exactly cuda is calculating. As far as I know the limits are set because they want to prevent people from giving them a ****storm, because they burned their GPU via OC, what a lot of people do.

 

2020... that's a long wait to miss a delivery deadline, and cancel another discrete GPU project.

It's extremely doubtful that Intel will do any better this time, than the last several times, at making their own top performing discrete GPU.

Besides, Intel is going to be too busy losing market share to AMD in the datacenter, desktop, and mobile markets to waste time and effort on another failed discrete GPU lark. It'll fail just like all the others, another more lucretive opportunity will arrive and distract Intel away from the goal.

Intel lately seems to specialize in announcements of, "how great it is going to be someday when x comes out..."

 

Intel being in the GPU game will be great for us consumers. More competition would bring these card's prices down.

Intel has generally managed to achieve performance increases of 30 - 40 in graphics performance with each generation. Since the first Intel GPUs will be based on their Gen 12 architecture (we're currently on gen 9.5), that leads to a 2.2x jump in performance (1.3^3 = 2.197). I wouldn't count Intel out just yet. Intel is a huge company and has a lot of talented engineers, but the company has been led by idiots that prioritize profit margins over performance improvements. This has lead them to current state that they are in now. Hopefully, with increased competition from AMD, Nvidia and Qualcomm; they'll start innovating again.

 

Couldn't have said it better iNtel got smacked by AMD Rz and now can't seem to figure how to get back up.
