Any suggestions on how to protect the PC, this includes the monitor, mid tower etc. I was also thinking about getting a gaming laptop instead, but since a desktop is much more powerful and cheaper, I'd like to get the desktop.

Bringing it every day or a once off?

Have you already bought? If you are still planning on buying it, buy PC desktop components in parts, transport them, profit.
Though it will still probably take you at least a couple of goes before you will have everything.
Is buying on the spot an option, instead of transporting everything? -
I mean just bringing it to my dorm to use for the semester.
-
I'll probably look into mailing it to my dorm, instead of bringing it on the bus.

I might be able to relate to you somewhat. Since I live in Japan and could move home in the near future I've had to build a desktop that can fit into a large suitcase.
I did alot of digging into cases that meet these requirements and found the corsair 350d to be the largest case that would fit into my suitcase . I ended up going for a 240 air despite my better judgement. But that's some food for thought for you

Long time ago, (in a galaxy far away.. ehr... no) when i was into lan party a lot, i used something like this to move my desktop

It may be worth a try, there are several models available on the marketkillkenny1 and TBoneSan like this. -
I'd probably just dump the monitor/keyboard/mouse/cables into backpack and carry the tower.
If your case is anything like my fractal define r4, even just taking it to the car will get you tired. -

I would say if your not going to go to gaming lan war games then a Desktop Gaming Rig in your dorm room would be fine. It's how you want to transport it to your dorm that will be the important factor. I would box up the monitor to protect it and box the keyboard and cables and use bubble form on your desktop so it protects from bumps and falls. So you have to do some planning here as you got a CPU unit case, monitor, keyboard/mouse so you got alot of things to plan how to get it packed and transported to your dorm. -
Honestly, the gaming notebook would seem like a better idea.
Though you could just build 2 semicomplete PCs and just take the Graphics card, mouse etc with you where you go. After all the Graphics card will make the biggest difference and with DX12 on its way.. why not. -
Already bought the desktop. I'm just going to mail it to my dorm in Uni.
-
What are you planning to do when you return home during breaks though? :cough: girlfriend :cough:
-
What do you mean? I'm going to leave it in my dorm, it's a single.
-
I meant if you happen to go back home? As in away from the dorm
Or am I missing something here? Do you have another PC at home? -
I have another PC.
-
Ahh, well OK. Didnt know that.
Either way, looks like your all set then. Enjoy. -

Most people forget you can do this as well...

Pack the computer in it's original box and take out the GPU and if you have a large heatsink take that out as well.killkenny1 likes this.

I did the same when I transported my PC. -
I would have suggested a mini itx with a Gtx 980. You could have got a small box sized one or one with a built in handle.
Is it feasible to bring a gaming desktop on a bus to college
