I haven't been a desktop enthusiast or gamer for damn near a decade. I plan on getting a fast desktop for as cheap as possible that is also decent for average games.
I'm leaning at purchasing this at $399 ....... Acer Aspire ATC-780A-UR12 Desktop Computer; Intel Core i5-7400 Processor 3.0GHz; Microsoft Windows 10 Home; 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM; 1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive
I'll replace the 1TB drive with a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB for around $150 for the OS. And will replace the Disc Burner with a 3TB drive that I already have for storage.
Will also add a 1050ti card for also around $150.
Will probably add another 8GB ram shortly afterwards, but I'm not too concerned about that to factor into the price.
So I'm looking at maybe around $750 tops. Is that worth it? I'm leaning towards yes, but would like some confirmation or maybe some better ideas within the price range. Thanks.

*Bought new Asrock X370 board upgraded UEFI to 2.30-they said only if you have problems but I upgraded regardless.
*Bought new AMD RyZen 1500X (note) motherboard/CPU combo gives you discounts
*Bought new RAM since it's DDR4 for 16gig
*Upgraded to NVMe drive-still have to figure how to format it to work properly(messed up the first time)
*Saved CPU cooling fan just bought adapter and it worked.
*Saved HDD because I have archives of archives of Dead Sea Scrolls on them...
*Saved Tower since it had room to spare and was more then able to eat up the board and upgrades and it already had USB3 ports to spare on it-future planning.
*Upgraded MSI GTX970 4G to MSI GTX 1060 6G GPU
*Saved 27" Montior
*Saved 750W PS
*Upgraded wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo
So if you plan it right you can still save a bundle...mine came in around 800$$ from Micro-Center as well. And when putting it into the case your planning to get take you time damaging small connections and pieces isn't worth the trouble they are. Mine upgrade is just a example of how I did mine so it's only for reference purpose.LIVEFRMNYC likes this. -
Thanks for the advice. I actually purchased the Desktop in my link. The changes I made was replaced the 1TB HHD for a 850 Evo 500GB SSD, and using it for my OS. I disconnected the DVD drive and use the SATA port for my 3TB 7200rpm HHD. The 1TB HHD I took out is being used in a external 3.0 USB case, which I have Linux (and the Bootloader) on that drive. I also added a 16GB Ram stick, so now I have 24GB.
So far I'm satisfied. Actually surprised how well the Intel 630 graphics plays back 4K videos and even simple Windows Store racing games like Asphalt 8. I'll take your advice and get a 1060 6GB instead of a 1050 4GB. I also plan on getting a mixed reality headset early next year, so that would be better. Is a 300 power supply good enough, or should I swap for a 400-500? -

Is this a good deal for this desktop setup?
