    Hello everyone. [IMG]

I don't think Asus official support will be able to answer my question, so I'd ask you guys. I'll be purchasing a high performing desktop machine using the upcoming ROG MAXIMUS XII EXTREME.

I don't understand specifications very well, so please be gentle. This will be second major rig since 2014.

    My proposed specifications will be:

    CASE: Corsair 1000D
    Display: Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ
CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K Unlocked 10th Gen Desktop
GPU: Dual - ROG Strix GeForce® RTX 3080Ti via NVLINK x2
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus XII Extreme
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DD4 32GB
    MS2: SSD 960 PRO NVMe M.2 2TB – Windows Installation
    MS2: SSD 960 PRO NVMe M.2 2TB x3
    SSD: Samsung 860 QVO 4TB 2.5” SATA SSD/Solid State Drive x4 in RAID 0
    HDD: 16TB Barracuda HDD
    SOUND: Integrated Motherboard
WIRELESS NETWORKING / BLUETOOTH: Integrated Motherboard
    POWER SUPPLY: HX Series™ HX1200 — 1200 Watt 80 PLUS
OS: Windows 10 Professional to be installed on one of the M.2 drives

Hard drive space if something I'll need LOTS of. Looking to back up all my emulations games, PC games and over a hundred Blu-Ray/4K movies.

If you need lots of space, why not do spinning rust instead of spending thousands on NVMe/SSDs? What is your actual question here? Maybe I just missed it.

Media and smaller games like emulators don't need to be on SSDs. It would make more sense to buy larger capacity spinning disks. You can (and frankly, should) set up a network attached storage device as well if you don't have one already. Those can provide redundancy as well as a platform for you to stream your movies instead of storing them locally.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm determined to store them locally.

I have TBs of Wii, Wii U, PlayStation 1/2/3 ROMs on external HDs.

Thanks for the heads, but I'll be sure to back up the back ups too.

If the question is if your components would be compatible with one another, I can't spot any conflicts. If the question is whether or not we approve of the specifications, I have som reservations.

First off, will this rig be used almost exclusively for gaming? Will you be overclocking? What are your plans for cooling — air, AIO for the CPU, or custom full loop (CPU + GPU)? Are noise levels important to you?

If your GPU workload exclusively is gaming, I'd wait until RTX 3080 Ti SLI benchmarks are published before deciding to get two, because multi-GPU support in games has been going downhill. Do you own the monitor and NVMe/M.2 SSDs already? By all means, Samsung's Pro series is great, but there are newer models than the 96o Pro and Asus PG27UQ. Is your brand preference towards Asus and Seagate strong? EVGA for motherboards (Z490 Dark) and/or PSU (SuperNOVA T- or P-series) and helium 10+ TB models from WD/HGST for HDDs are certainly also worth a look if you haven't considered them already.

As pointed out by custom90gt and saturnotaku, SSDs are way overkill for archiving data.

    Hello,

Thank you for your response. the system will be used for 4k gaming (PC and emulation) and to watch 4k/HD movies.

For cooling, I've come up with the following ingredients if you want.

PASTE: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on the CPU and GPU

    TYPE OF LOOP: Dual

    TUBING: PETG Hardline

    WATERBLOCK: EK Water Blocks EK-Velocity + EK-Vector RTX 2080 Ti RGB - Nickel + Plexi x2

RESERVOIR: EK Water Blocks EK-RES X3

    PLATE: EK-Vector Nickel

PASTE: Mayhem Ice White & Blue Berry + Aurora Booster for a translucent effect

    FITTINGS: EK-Torque – Nicket & EK-AF Angled 45 Degrees G1 / 4inch Blac

    RADIATORS: EK-Cool Stream CE 560 + EK-CoolStream CE 420

    PUMPS: EK-XTOP Revo D5 PWM - Plexi

    FANS: EK-Furious Vardar EVO 140 BB (2500rpm) x7

DISTRIBUTION PLATES: x2 (system will look like this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/infi...-watercooled-extreme-gaming-pc-fs-46a-oe.html)

Still unsure of the exhaust fans

The pro series are slightly cheaper from Samsung.

I'd rather go for SSDs because of speed/noise. Then use a massive HD to back up my entire library of Retro Crap. :D

Your raid 0 setup is going to be far less reliable than having spinning drives in raid 1 or parity.

I would second having a NAS or something if you really want data backup...

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm set on the SSD drives. Quicker and less noise. I might buy an extra HDD for a second back up if possible.

    Dual - ROG Strix GeForce® RTX 3080Ti via NVLINK x2 ???????????????

That card doesn't exist, lol... or even if it were to be made some day there is no guarantee that it would support NVLINK.. I think you have to go for the dual 3090 if you want a SLI setup. Though in my honest opinion it's not worth it. You'll have a second GPU sitting there doing nothing like 99% of the time. There absolutely no indication that multi-GPU is going to be widely supported for game developers.

The rest seems ok, I'm not sure if that PSU is enough though. you have around 1000 W in x2 3090 + 10900k. If you go 100% load you get like 90% efficiency on that PSU, leaving less than 100W to feed motherboards, RAMs, SSDs, etc. If you go dual 3090 go for a bigger power supply or a more efficient PSU. If you go single GPU that PSU is ok.
