It looks like the KS chips are pretty well binned for the most part. The way that I see it, for those that missed out on the first batch of 'good' 9900K's, this is another chance to have one that can scale well...
ie... it's a second chance to own one... another opportunity to obtain one.
Very nice @Talon. That's awesome. Thanks for sharing..
What's the MPG at 50x on the KS?
On the current 9900K I have in my gaming rig it's running 50x all cores @ 1.234v. It's the same chip that I used to validate 55x...
I may pick up a KS just to compare to my K and KF 9900K's ... it's pretty much sold out everywhere at the moment... they went fast lol.

We'll see. My 7980XE still beats the majority of 9980XE'S. Only thing holding it back is my cooling. It will likely be much better under chilled water to LN2.

Everything is great, Brother @JoeT44 and thanks for asking. I checked after you last post and again just now and I do not have an email from you. Not sure where it went.
Edit: Nevermind. I found it. I must have deleted it by accident on my phone. All of my mail for 5 email addresses goes into the same bucket on my phone and I may have accidentally swiped it sideways when reviewing messages.
[RANT]Man, I hate smartphones. They are a necessary evil, but still mostly an annoying pain in the bottom to have to fart around with when a computer isn't readily accessible. I find it difficult to comprehend why some people love their crappy, overpriced, miserably small and slimy touch-screen phones so much. Compromises are never a good thing in my book. I paid about $700 for my LG V30 ThinQ when it was a newly released product, and I even got a second one for free for my wife. Seemed like a good deal at the time, and probably was comparatively speaking. It was, and still is, head and shoulders better than most of them, but in my mind it's not worth more than about $70 brand new. None of them are worth even a quarter of what they sell for on sale, LOL... just another form of overpriced portable garbage.[/RANT]Last edited: Nov 5, 2019JoeT44 likes this. -
Nice. Yea I've pretty much sold off most of my 9900K's, but still have and will keep the golden eggs. One of them is in my main gaming rig and for gaming the 9900K is still king so I'll stay with it until something actually better comes about.
I was really close to going Ryzen 3900x, but again for gaming it still falls short due to single core performance and clocks.I wonder how much headroom it'll have. Looking forward to it...What's the max frequency / voltage you're able to run now with your current cooling set up? I like the 7980XE alot and purposely bought it over the soldered 9980XE. Have you delided your 7980XE? I've delidded mine, but I still have to LM it as I kept traditional paste on there for testing custom ihs prototypes. Hmm maybe I'll LM tonight... We'll see... -
Hey fellas... RAM tuning tonight. RAM OH RAM.. it has 'gotta' be one of the fastest ways to get grey hairs lol. Oh how tedious it is... always has been...
Now that the main gaming rig is back up and running, I'm trying to see how tight I can get the timings on these 4266MHz sticks (4x8GB G.Skill TridentZ). Does anyone have the same or similar kit?
The main goal is stability for gaming+recording+streaming and quite honestly anything over 3600MHz I'm happy with (for gaming), but since the kit is 4266MHz, I'm realistically looking at getting it to run super solid at advertised speeds if possible without having to crank up the voltage too much.
Thinking out loud, I think it'll be neat to get a discord chat going where those who are RAM tuning can get on voice chat while tuning the RAM... it'll sure take the edge off of the urge to pull out your hair lol.
Does anyone here have the same or similar RAM kit? If so, I'm curious how far you were able to get with the timings+voltages for a rock solid daily driver setting.Convel likes this. -

My 7980XE is delidded and pasted with LM. It does 5.2 at 1.465 on different benchmarks. For CB 15, I had it at 5.0 but it overwhelms my MO-RA3 420 Pro. It is getting colder, so you guys will see me benching again more often.
-
I've picked up something very old for my benching. Has been in the drawer for almost 10 years. Have only been out a few times in recent years so I could borrow a few thermal pads. Yeah, for those who don't remember seeing this FCC ID numbers before, its the high-end Mobile graphic card of the 200M series... NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285M
Edit. Specs from Techpowerup Gpu Database https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-285m.c391Last edited: Nov 6, 2019 -
If you put that in the laptop with your 9900K you will take first place in probably all GTX 285M benchmarks. The GTX 285M was never paired with a CPU or RAM with half the speed and power of your 9900K and DDR4. That's also an effective way to knock others off of their throne, too. Wait until nobody has an old GPU available to them, pair it with a MUCH faster modern CPU and RAM, then steal all of their world records after it is too late for them to make any effort win them back.Last edited: Nov 6, 2019

I don't think its needed pair it with 9900K for points on the boot https://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/geforce_gtx_285m/
The card haven't DX11/12 so Cloud Gate will be the most demanding benchmark from the 3DM Suite.
And from what I see from 3Dmark leaderboard neither a problem there.
As you can see.... The i7-820QM from the 285M leaderboard above can't compete with the oc'd 920X I already have in my Clevo W860 (around +50% faster). Already overkill
+ the cooling in my Clevo W860 is more than adequate
GTX 460M have same TDP as 285M so temp shouldn't be a problem.

Nice...yup it's that time of the year again.

Up and go.

Looking great... from a glance I thought you had an unknown release of an ultra ultra wide monitor lol.
Great stuff. It's refreshing to see RAM benches.. I've been working on my RAM kits and tuning the past few days...
Awesome. Do you have the RoyalZ 4600 kit? That's the one I have as well... it'll be interesting to see how well that compares.
You got this brother... go for Gold.

Here's where I'm at so far with RAM tuning on the main gaming rig.
G.Skill TridentZ 4x8GB - 4266MHz Kit (32GB) on the Aorus Z390 Master.
I can get it to run 4266, but I don't like the timings and how it scales lol... 4133 for this board seems to be the sweet spot... I'll take it. Especially for what it is...
Work in progress...Last edited: Nov 11, 2019Robbo99999, Rage Set, makina69 and 4 others like this. -
The fact that you are able to get 4x8GB at that speed gives hope that I need to go back and get to tweaking my similar setup of 4x8gb. I am running 3800 CL16 currently. The sticks are rated 4400Mhz CL19.Convel, Mr. Fox, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

Precisely! I knew someone would get it and I'm not surprised that it was you.
Good eye and understanding.
I'm pretty impressed with the kit so far being that it is indeed 4 sticks compared to 2 that would scale much better...
Looking forward to seeing your results! By any chance is your 4400mhz kit the g.skill tridentz or royalz? If so I have that same kit on the test bench, but haven't had a chance to get to it yet. -
-
my ram is normal 2 modules Gskill cl19 19 39 (16gb) are not the royal ... xd

Stop teasing me with that board. If only that board came to the US. Perhaps when it/if becomes cheaper, I'll pick it up in the future for some OC'ing fun. The Z390 Dark is very nice but Asus did hit a homerun with the XI GENE. I can't say that about some of their other boards.
-
By any chance do you guys know what the average max RAM speeds people are achieving with that board? (ROG Maximus XI Gene)
@Rage Set, when I get around to it I'll test the 4266 kit on the Z390 Dark... I'm pretty confident it'll be able to easily boot 4266 and beyond as my 4600 kit boots at advertised speeds just fine... The Aorus Z390 Master is a pretty strong board for half the price as it's the same board that I was able to validate the 55x on the 9900K. RAM wise I've seen some yt'ers hit much higher into the 4533 range on the Z390 Master (but with 2x sticks). It's fun to RAM tune, but after a certain point for gaming purposes it's really a 'want' and not a need with very little gain if at all.... So far I've saved a few profiles that are solid for gaming, but the curiosity of where the the limit is for this kit will have me on the hunt with trial and error testing...Rage Set, Convel, makina69 and 1 other person like this. -
not with any board and cpu you can get a stable 4500..maximum I can start up to 4600..I think that the imc of my cpu is good
Rage Set likes this. -
I think the GENE supports RAM at 4800. The QVL list shows 4700, but I bet it goes to 4800. Like the Dark, it only has two RAM slots and if it is like other Asus boards, does very well with RAM overclocking. My X299 Dark doesn't like my 4800 set above 4000. I was able push another set with the same CPU on my Asus board to 4200.Convel, iunlock, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

1 year ago that I have the computer and now I realize that I can have the ram at 4500 .... hahaha

On my Z390 Dark the 4600 modules boots and passes benches at 4600, but I haven't gotten around to tuning it at all yet.
What timings and voltage are you running at 4000 on the X299? Able to get it below 17-17-17-37 by any chance @ 1.40v?
I have the X299 Dark on the test bench currently so I can run some tests to bounce back some info.
RAM is a funny thing my friend.
How much voltage are you pushing to keep it stable at 4500? Hopefully below 1.50v lol.

Brother @Papusan and his old hardware benching has inspired me to do something different while I am waiting for a CPU upgrade.
This is on air, modded vBIOS with 1.212V and 200% power limit, GPU boost disabled. Runs the way GPUs are SUPPOSED to run. Like a stick shift versus a sloppy automatic transmission. Stays in whatever gear you put it in and doesn't have a mind of its own like all of the crappy new "dynamic" GPU garbage that only does about half (or less) of what you tell it to do. I might have to get an NZXT Kraken G12 bracket and a generic AIO to put the core on water to give it a little more headroom on the core clock.
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/13566536
Just think how powerful Pascal and Turing GPUs would be with the same high quality firmware we used to enjoy, along with an equal level of control over GPU behavior. It would be pretty awesome. It's a real shame the way things have been so severely dumbed down and dubbed as "progress" by the control freaks.
Time marches on... https://www.3dmark.com/compare/3dm11/13566536/3dm11/13521851Last edited: Nov 13, 2019 -

From the link below...
Re-read my older post above. A refresher here as well...
Dell might expand Alienware's product line to PC components in the future
""What we don’t want to do is just put our name on something. The Alienware name comes with a brand promise, and if we don’t deliver on that promise to customers consistently, they’re going to stop trusting the Alienware brand."
Then read the link below and let it sink in ....
Thoughts on Dell versions of GPUs seeming to be... different, or less optimal... than their normal counterparts?
This all brings me back to my main worry or question, relating to the above videos & my experience, which is:
- Does Alienware skimp out on the GPUs used in their systems? Are we getting a subpar version of the RTX cards when we buy from Alienware?
- If so, why? I understand there has to be a profit margin for Alienware... but when paying $2,000+ for a gaming PC, I believe most of us wouldn't mind the extra ~$200 cost to get a proper model of the graphics card that was advertised to us when purchasing.
Bro Fox... I think you hit the nail on the head

The Alienware brand is synonymous with trash. Nothing they have offered since around 2012 is worth anything... all garbage. The defacto standard by which all other rubbish is measured. Their desktops haven't been worth a damn for even longer. I would have expected the opposite to be true, but they do not abide by commonly accepted standards. They are out of touch with their customers and reality.
