So besides the obvious undervolting, applying liquid metal, and using a laptop cooling stand (all of which I have done), are there any other mods to drop temps? When I'm maxing out the CPU/GPU I quickly get to 95C which doesn't scare me but obviously if I want to run it that way for an extended period of time I'd like to try to cool it more if possible. Would something like this work to help cool down the air temp being drawn in by the fans if I found a way to duct it straight to the intake area on the laptop?

I'm wondering if it would be dangerous since it's an evaporative cooler it may be humidifying the air, but I'm wondering if since it's so hot inside the case anyway it wouldn't be an issue. I certainly didn't buy the laptop for mining as there are much better solutions for that, but I wanted to at least test it and see what happens using a program called Kryptex, but it's just maxing everything out to thermal throttling quite quickly even with Cooler boost (max fans) and the laptop stand fans running at max.

If it is something you would use if it works well, even if it doesn't work out well with the laptop, then there is no harm it finding out. There is nothing wrong with having a cooler space around your seating area working at the computer, or when watching TV, etc. I am skeptical that it would make a remarkable improvement, but I could be totally wrong. The reviews suggest it is very effective, and if you live in a very dry climate it might be surprisingly useful. You would need to monitor the amount of humidity it produces. As long is it does not produce condensation, then the added humidity is not an issue. In a place like Palm Springs or Phoenix, probably not enough to identify a change in humidity. In a place like Houston or New Orleans, that extra humidity could be an issue. For less than $50 I'd say it is worth investigating. With Amazon, sending back a piece of crap couldn't be easier, so nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you try it, please take some pictures and share your experience with us.

I am tempted to try it because my office is always too hot, even when people are saying they are too cold when sitting anywhere else in the house.

Play games on the porch, it's good to be outdoors I hear. Wouldn't know it though.

At some point you have to prioritize what you need more of, cpu grunt or gpu especially if the heatsink is unified (not familiar with your machine). Though mine is more desktop oriented my hardware hits 90's fairly often and I probably need another application of liquid metal

I just noticed this. What in the world does a child's outdoor bubble mower toy have to do with a personal evaporative cooler?
Maybe I am missing a connection since these items are " frequently bought together" LOL. Way too funny.

Yeah for a brand new 11800H and RTX 3080 w/ 165W TGP MSI went with old school tripod heatsinks :( I had never applied LM before so I'm sure there is room for improvement in my application methods, but I did see noticeable improvement over the nightmare stock paste it came with. I'm a goof, I'm not sure how to directly share a previous post, but what I did is the last post on this page http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...iscussion-lounge.835425/page-26#post-11114828

@Mr. Fox , I'm in Southern California about an hour north of San Diego so we have plenty of dry heat which is why I thought this little cooler might be worth a shot. As you said, returns couldn't be easier. I can just take the item to Kohl's and it doesn't even have to be in the original packaging and I have a return credit within a few hours. If I decide to try it out then I'll definitely take photos and post it up. I'm not very good at building things so I'll have to figure out a way to direct the airflow exiting the cooler directly to the intake ports on the laptop fans, otherwise I'm afraid any cool air coming out will just get destroyed by all the hot air coming out of the rear exhausts on the laptop.
As far as the suggested item, that made me laugh as well. Chances are the A.I. running the suggestion algorithm is running projections days/weeks/months into the future and is therefore smart enough to determine there is some connection between those items, therefore driving up the chances that the item will be purchased. I'm joking of course, but I know better and know enough to acknowledge much of that joke in some degree is actually taking place.

I was also on my cell at the time which compacts everything. Its kind of nuts that there is only 1 dedicated heatpipe on the CPU.

That bottom tray doesnt really allow for much benefit of the cooling pad. Might entertain the idea of trying to design a replacement bottom lid made of aluminum with more ventilation to have more benefit of the cooling pad.

There is argument to be had about losing the passive air pull from the laptops ventilation (fans pulling air from the whole system to a degree) but typically all scenarios that leaned that direction were a net gain in temperatures.

Sorry not sure I follow you. Are you talking about the cooling stand it's sitting on and the bottom cover of the laptop itself? I was even wondering if there was any problem with removing the bottom cover of the laptop all together. Is there any major problem with doing that? It literally just sits on that stand, which forms a seal around the bottom of the laptop, and those little turbo fans on the laptop stand have dust covers over the intake ports. Obviously I would never transport the laptop without the cover, but it hasn't once left that stand and I don't anticipate it too for many months as I work/school from home.

Sigh... I just approved a settlement on a theft of cargo claim that involved 95 RTX 3090 and 140 RTX 3070 GPUs. $301K worth of GPUs that some loser is going to make a killing off of. I hope whoever is responsible for the theft ends up losing them all in a fire or something more tragic, then gets caught and goes to jail. Or even better, I hope they get recovered and the person(s) responsible go to jail. The venue is CA, so they'll probably get away with it.

It is unfortunately very common for employees of shippers to be thieves, including the truck drivers. Sometimes they are part of organized crime rings, masquerading as a trucker or warehouse laborer looking for a new job. They are most often new hires, but some are just ordinary untrustworthy deadbeat loser employees that accept a sizeable bribe to leave their truck and trailer unattended at a specified time and location, or leave a side door unlocked "by accident" when they leave for the day, so the thieves have a safe window of opportunity to get the job done.

Yeah its nuts how much meta is involved at some docks. Can sometimes be difficult to "just work".

BMW used to pay those same cartels to leave their stuff alone. No idea if that is still practiced though this was before they temped the western facilities. Maybe 2009? Can't remember

That's a bummer to hear, how many did you purchase? My friend is a vet and was stationed in South Korea for 20 years. When he relocated back to the states three years ago the "movers" (most likely connected to the South Korean mafia) stole thousands of dollars worth of his items, including things like photo albums and sentimental items with no monetary value. And yeah, I've lived in CA for over 30 years so there's an excellent chance that those persons tasked with catching the criminals that stole those GPUs are in fact criminals themselves.

My occupation deals with the insurance side of the loss and most of what we do involves commercial transportation, shipping, cargo, trucking, freight, etc. There is definitely a lot of organized crime in this area of commerce and cities where there are major inland transportation hubs or ocean-marine ports are the worst.

Far Cry 6 PC Requires Graphics Cards With Over 11 GB VRAM To Load High-Resolution Textures Properly

The report states that Far Cry 6 PC comes with an HD Texture Pack which weighs in at 35 GB. The HD Texture pack is stated to require at least 11-12 GB of VRAM to function properly but it looks like even the high-end GeForce RTX 2080 Ti couldn't load these textures properly. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 only packs in 10 GB of VRAM and while it has memory compression techniques to conserve bandwidth and capacity, that doesn't apply here for both high-end cards. In fact, the GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090 might be the only graphics cards that will be able to run the texture pack due to their higher VRAM capacity.

Yep an 3090 Ti with fast and enough vram would help... Maybe we will see some with 3080 that want to trade in their cards for refershed cards with proper amount vram?

This article is a bit disingenuous as it buries this crucial tidbit farther down:

"Turning off the HD Texture Pack in Far Cry 6 on PC led to textures being displayed as normal but that's the only solution for now until devs decide to lower the VRAM requirements for the HD pack. DSOGaming also provided a few side-by-side screenshots for comparison. The image on the right is with the HD texture pack loaded up while the image on the left is without the texture pack. You can clearly see the wooden plank at the bottom in the right image unable to load its texture fully as intended (you may also use a lower than 4K resolution to free up some VRAM capacity for the HD textures to load properly)."

More of everything sells. Remember Nvidia's huge upgrade for last gen of Kepler mobile. 8GB vram was the selling point for 880M. Aka a useless upgrade over 780M.

And mobile 3080 comes both with 8GB and 16GB version of the cards. More means better chance to charge more $$$.

The 3080 was advertised for 4k gaming, couldn’t even do that well, and now it seems to be struggling with newer games.

    upload_2021-10-8_12-16-3.png

It seems myself and many others were even more right about the 3080 not having enough VRAM for the use case it was being advertised for lol.

AMD got it right giving their 6800, 6800xt and 6900xt 16GB right out of the gate if 4k is on your radar and future proofing. Heck, they even gave the 6700xt 12GB.....

The 3000 super refresh most likely will be memory bumps across the board for the 3070 and 3080 as limitations are really starting to become a reality for their smaller memory capacities at higher resolutions. All that is up in the air now is the price increases. A super 3090 still makes zero sense outside of an MSRP uptick money grab similar to the 3080 -> 3080ti cash grab by Nvidia.

"Introducing the new Super Founders Edition 3090 for $1999.99" which would be $2500-2600+ MSRP for AIBs.

EVGA Improves Queue System for RTX 30 Series Cards After Backlash From Waiting Consumers

On EVGA's forum, Project Manager Jacob—last name unknown—released this statement the next day.

    Everyone,

As we continue to monitor the queue to get cards to gamers sooner, we appreciate all the feedback to help us to improve the queue system.

Due to the overwhelming demand for the 30 Series Products, our first step was to close the notify queue until we can fulfill them. Management team then took an extra step to prioritize those that have not received a card versus others who have been able to get multiple GPU’s.

After reading the feedback, there were legitimate concerns about retroactively changing the queue function. We are sorry for any frustration this caused, this was not the company’s intention. Today we are going to make the following updates:

    1. The queue system will be rolled back to the previous rule.

    • Anyone who missed a card from Monday, October 4th, will be notified on the next release.
    • EVGA will continue to send notifies through October 8th.
    2. In order to get cards to gamers sooner, please go to the notify page at https://www.evga.com/community/myNotifies.asp and keep only the top two cards selected that you would like to purchase, and remove the others.

    • On October 11th, 2021, the system will only lookup and send notifies based on your two oldest entries.
    • Going forward, the queue system will only allow for two 30 Series notifies on the current lineup.
    • EVGA strongly suggests to keep the FTW3 ULTRA or XC3 ULTRA models due to consistent supply compared to limited supply on K|NGP|N, HYDRO COPPER and HYBRID due to supply constraints.
    • EVGA is also going to be adding SMS verification to the checkout process for all notifications to catch bot orders.
    3. The queue system will not be turned back on until the current queues are fulfilled.
    4. The checkout window is 20 hours from the time of notification released.

EVGA appreciates your feedback to continue improving the queue system to deliver 30 Series cards into as many gamers hands as possible.

    Thanks
    EVGA

I've decided to ignore the WHEA errors running IF in sync 1:1 with memory. It's a Ryzen defect, so I'll just ride it hard and put it up wet and keep doing that until it croaks. If doing that kills it, then que sera sera. Other than seeing them in HWiNFO64 when I look, I haven't identified any actual problems that the "CPU Bus/Interconnect Errors" are causing. Maybe it's just a false positive that doesn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things (?) but I am not sure what to make of it. I haven't seen any BSOD and if it were not for the errors showing in HWiNFO64 I don't think anyone would even be aware of them.

Maybe it is not worth burning any calories thinking about it. I may just hide those sensors in HWiNFO64 so I am less annoyed when I can't see them anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. I think ignoring them in favor of the reduced latency and better memory performance is a trade that I am willing to make. The improvement shows in benchmark scores, so I am going to set it and forget it.
    upload_2021-10-9_0-3-22.png

But, the USB drop-out thing is about to drive me to drink. The only time that USB problem is reduced to an infrequent annoyance is when I use the half-assed PBO overclocking and put up with its sucky performance. Manual overclocking with fixed core ratios causes it to be a constant problem on this Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard. I hope AMD fixes this USB debacle before I end up ruining the USB ports from constantly unplugging and re-plugging USB cables for my mouse, keyboard and external backup HDD. It's absolutely BS that overclocking a 5950X beyond 4.7GHz is so difficult and pushing the IF to the place it is supposed to be in order for it to work correctly causes other problems. Ryzen is truly a joke and I am feeling sorry that I fell for it. Intel is still king, but the question now is, "king of what?" since 11th Gen is also trash... but, at least Intel's stuff works correctly without so many unresolved flaws. It feels like the hobby of being an overclocking enthusiast is starting to circle the drain with the crappy direction things are headed.

So, it appears that the high latency on the L3 cache is another bug that randomly surfaces. I have found other people complaining about this bug in other forums. Some of them are blaming AIDA64, but the numbers associated with it are real, so I don't really see how AIDA64 capturing the defect is an AIDA64 problem. I think it is an AMD fanboy problem and they want AIDA64 to take the blame for it, LOL. Sometimes it is normal (around ~10.5ns) and other times the L3 cache latency jumps up to ~14.5-15.5ns and when that occurs the L3 cache read/write and copy speeds also go down to something substantially less than 1,000GB/s. Way to go, Team Red. Keep up the great work. Your fanboys don't care if you fix your messes, they still love you anyway.
    upload_2021-10-8_23-54-5.png
Congratulations AMD... your current flagship Ryzen 9 CPU can finally beat an Intel 16C/32T CPU (in Cinebench) that was released in 2017. Sarcasm aside, nice job. 7960X and 7980XE gave their owners a lot of mileage and true overclocking awesomeness for a very long time, but nothing lasts forever. They're still very wicked CPUs, even in their current second place ranking.

Retailer fulfils 1 year GeForce RTX 3080 order after receiving a celebratory cake from a client videocardz.com

Believe it or not, there are still people waiting for RTX 3080 orders fulfillment after ordering one right after they came out… in September 2020. One of such clients has requested a bakery to make a special cake for this occasion, a cake that would be sent to the company where the card was ordered.

@Robbo99999 have you got your 3080 graphics card you ordered last fall? Or did you scrap the order?

Windows 11 gives Intel Core i9-12900K exclusive boost in benchmark comparison but the Alder Lake chip still lags behind the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

The Intel Core i9-12900K has been discovered being tested on Windows 11 where it produced up to double-digit performance gains over the same tests on Windows 10. However, despite the exclusive boost from Microsoft, the 16-core Alder Lake chip still lagged behind an older rival in the form of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X.

As a reminder... Intel will compete with an AMD cpu from 2020. Not exactly apples vs apples. We are soon into 2022. On top you are forced to use Microsoft's newest OS (the Apple clone) to get the most out of Intel's chips. OS meant more for the new modern 2 in 1 touch-books (M$ Surface books), pen-books and tablets.

I used to enjoy talking with myself like that. Some of the most intellectually stimulating conversations I've had have been with myself, but I stopped doing it because it seems like it always turned into a heated argument.

The only problem with ignoring them is you can clearly push conditions that trigger them so I wouldn't arbitrarily notch it up to a bug. If 100% stability isn't needed and it doesn't negatively effect your bench runs then let it ride!

The USB chipset issue truly was the deal breaker for me. I work with too much external media to deal with a persistent USB issue. Unlike my brother who doesn't want to rock his boat now that he is all set up with his 5600x and I'll just pop in a USB 3.2 PCIe card.

I already tried that. The PCIe card has drop-outs as well. I moved my keyboard and mouse to the ports on the card hoping to minimize the issue and it didn't seem to provide any benefit. It seems to happen with all of the USB ports and the ports connected to the headers on the motherboard. It's not limited to the native AMD controller.

Ryzen is just a $hitty product no matter how you want to slice it. From this, I have learned that never extending forgiveness and second chances to a company that you're not happy with is the best approach. AMD didn't deserve it, and neither did ASUS. That still small voice that told me no is mocking me now. My optimism and natural inclination to forgive are serious character flaws when it comes to business. (Those are appropriate and Godly traits that are expected when dealing with individual human beings.)

I am thinking that the CPU Bus/Interconnect error and the USB thing are related. I usually have Windows system sounds disabled, but I didn't after my last clean install. When an error appears in HWiNFO64 it seems to coincide with my external backup drive disappearing and reappearing and the Windows sounds associated with it.

Part of me is hopeful that the X570 Dark makes these problems go away, but I'm probably stupid to believe it will happen. I am debating internally whether or not is makes good sense to spend such a large sum of money on another motherboard that going to be perma-broken based on the product it supports. I love the idea of supporting EVGA, but I hate the idea of flushing money down the toilet trying to fix something that can't be fixed. Decisions, decisions.

Maybe all this is my problem because it's really only frequent and maddening when I am pushing the CPU hard, (hard by AMD standards,) but that's literally the ONLY reason I bought it. If I can't do that because of engineering defects, then it is a crappy product that is unfit for the purpose for which it was purchased. But, knowing myself and my personal demons, I feel a financial hemorrhage is probably coming when the EVGA notification appears. It would bring me great joy to discover that the USB crap not getting fixed goes to the credit of the retards at ASUSTeK.

    Ugh....

If the PCIe card doesn't remedy the problem I'm going to suck up the cost and move him back to Intel and sell off his Gigabyte B550 and 5600x. I recommended AMD to him and he always goes with my recommendations. My brother is the kindest most patient guy I know and you have to pull teeth to get him to complain about anything so I know for him to specifically mention the USB issue with his devices I know it is causing him problems.

AMD admitted in February there were USB issues with B550 and X570 and then promised a fix in March. It is now October and the problems are still here.

Fingers crossed EVGA X570s will fix the issue.
I haven't found any posts yet to verify if the X570s fixes the USB issues, but I haven't found any complaints yet either.

I agree with Talon. Perhaps you should cut your losses and go with something older. Perhaps a return to X299 on the cheap. Then just wait a while until something truly deserves your attention, if anything.

Part of me wants to do that, but the whole thing seems like it is becoming an unpleasant money pit. If I punch out now, I will take a massive loss financially by selling almost new parts for probably half what I paid for them and might even have to come up with more money to make a switch. Plus, that doesn't fix the reason I took the leap of faith with the 5950X. If I go back to an older platform, then I am back to having nothing left to conquer short of going down the LN2 path. I extracted everything the platforms had to offer in terms of overclocked benching. I am probably going to either cross my fingers and bite the bullet on the X570 Dark and hope it's not another waste, or just do nothing whatsoever, put the parts back in an enclosed case, use it as an expensive email and web browsing monster and forget about participating in the sport. I've lost my passion for gaming, so there isn't much left at this point. (I have not installed even one game on the X570 system.)

I need to think and pray about it. With the ongoing wait for the X570 Dark drop and the OptimusPC GPU block having no ETA, I've probably got time to give it a lot of thought and decide what the best path is going to be. I don't really find any option available to be desirable at the moment. I am also tempted to cancel my order on the OptimusPC Kingpin block. I probably won't because it's already paid for and I am curious if it is as awesome as all of the hype suggests it is going to be. But, I probably should not have ordered it, especially considering how ridiculously long the wait has been. I hate it when companies that make awesome products announce things 6 months to a year before you can buy them.

The used 2600X I purchased to use while getting the 5950X delidded was supposed to be here Wednesday and UPS has some kind of logistics problem and delivery was moved to Tuesday of next week, so now I am even questioning whether the delid is going to be a waste of money. Even if it makes a big improvement in thermals, it isn't going to make a silk purse of an AMD sow's ear and I am skeptical I will be able to gain even a Mickey Mouse 100MHz overclock gain when all is said and done.

I am wearing myself out trying to identify something wonderful about Ryzen and probably just need to chill and do nothing, LOL. I am really puzzled by so many people raving about how great it is. I can't say it is because they've never owned anything awesome, because most of them have.

I agree. I don't see a reason to regress platform wise. Worst case, continue to tinker and hopefully improve and hold steady while Alderlake launches and see how it pans out. It also gives a window to see how the X570s works out and if it addresses the issues with the B550 and X570 chipsets.

If Alderlake delivers as promised, it may lack serious overclocking headroom too so there is that to deal with.

You've done everything you could with older platforms and all that was left to explore was AMD. It's a challenge and its good to see you re-affirming many issues many of us had even in the face of many saying "working as intended. nothing to see here. carry on." If EVGA delivers a quality X570s motherboard up to the same specs as previous Dark motherboards I suspect you will be very pleased. It will at least remove the motherboard and chipset from the equation so you only have the potential faults of the AMD cpu itself to mitigate as much as possible. You then sell off just the Asus and suffer a small loss, swap in the Dark and keep on truckin'.

This is a pricey hobby. If I manage to break even YTY it is a miracle....that hasn't quite happened yet but I've come close a few times. I'm getting ready to lay down another chunk of change this coming week for more computer stuff happily but the wallet is groaning. I'll then re-assess the following week and see what I can (or need) to sell off to mitigate the cash outlay.

Yes, we are in complete agreement here. That seems like the only logical path worth trying. Hopefully, it will end well and I can find something nice to say in the end. If it does not, nobody can say that I am a narrow-minded Intel fanboy. I simply have a low tolerance for broken trash. Hence, I no longer want anything to do with laptops.

I dont recall them having a worthwhile reputation. its specifically that era that convinced me to write them off as an option all the way up to the 5700 XT.

Wasnt that era of products the specific reason why people went out of their way to look into and later define what frametimes were?

What I think is completely fair to say however, is that AMD used ATI properties as life support to keep them afloat until Ryzen came along. Simple to say, but there is a long stretch of time between AM3 to AM4. As a result the only regret I have is not buying some AMD stocks back in the say when they were like 5 bucks or so...

I think due to having used a Ryzen platform since the first TR4 socket, I have gotten use to many of the issues that plague AMD. TR4 with the 1950X was NOT good until at least 6 to 8 months into its existence.

The way you currently feel about X570 and your 5950X is how I feel about the 11900K and my multiple Asus Z590 mobos. I only use it for gaming when I have spare time. I no longer overclock the 11900K, instead I using my 10900KF with my Asrock 6900 XT.

My problems with my 11900K, it doesn't like 5.0 or higher allcore, even if I put my memory at 3600 with semi-tight timings. For the Asus boards, they routinely "forget" all of my save profiles. The BIOS will reset itself and hours of settings lost.

I am with you about leaving the sport alone for a little while.

11900k is an odd duck no getting around that. Frankenchip to the core.

Maybe I shouldn't have such high faith in EVGA and the X570S, but I just feel like they are going to knock it out of the park based on previous Dark boards. That and the Zen refresh has really good potential.

We're getting closer! First it was 1 per, then 5 per, then even 10 per....now:

I might be dating myself and I am not sure of your age, but I am talking about a pretty long a long time ago in computer years. My married adult children were in junior high and high school. NVIDIA was the underdog and ATi was the defacto standard in PC graphics. Then, AMD bought ATi and began destroying them by selling nothing but rubbish. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but there was a clear line of demarcation where they went from awesome to awful. Then NVIDIA opened a can of whoop ass on them, nearly drove them to extinction, and they are only now (current gen flagship) attempting to return fire. The last GPU that wasn't made by NVIDIA that I can confidently say was a good product was the ATi Radeon 4000 and 5000 series (around 2007). Everything bearing the AMD named that I purchased after that, starting with the AMD Radeon 6000 series was a POS. By the time the AMD Radeon 7000 series was in full force I was done with them. Their GPUs were utter trash. About half way into the 7000 series life cycle they were overtaken by NVIDIA in terms of product excellence and reliability. 7970 was better than 680 stock, but once you started overclocking the 680 ripped its head off and pooped down its neck. 7970 sucked at overclocking and was an unreliable product, just as everything in the 6000 series was buggy and unreliable. It was during this time I errantly swore I would never own another piece of garbage from AMD.

Yes, I agree. That's why I say there are no good options. I look at what is going on with Z590 and 11900K and that is what caused me to consider 5950X as the alternative. When I think about more chiplet crap and Intel joining the party of stupid on that I am like...

Yes thats also the era Im referring to. I had the EAH4890 and it got the job done but when I got another for XFIRE games became unplayable, I later tried the XFX 4870x2 which wouldnt initialize the second GPU randomly. Those are anecdotal experiences and have colored my bias a bit but I also recall that there was a lot of argument about how GPU's may seem to be equal in FPS performance but nvidia at the time seem to have a more pleasant experience. AMD consumers would tend to argue that it was bollocks because they were pointing to a subjective means of measurement which was proper from an argument format but it was later defined as frametimes.

Now this could all be very incorrect, as I was much younger at the time and now trying to recall this 10+ years later lol, just recalling what seemed to be the general sentiment at the time from when I lurked over at OCN as I dont think I made an account until after having built the AM3/ATi system.

On a separate note, it is annoying to see GPU's that have no place in mining also get their prices inflated to varying degree's. I had been wanting to start collecting at the very least my old GPU upgrade trail but some of that has been tempered lol

Though there is a decent price on the 4850x2, which is another card I secretly wanted but never got around to picking up.

Indeed it appears EVGA has hit it out of the park with the X570 Dark. All of the reviews, even by the non-overclockers, are positive. If you want the best of the best for overclocking on AMD, the X570 Dark is it. If you don't overclock, don't pick up this board. On the other hand, you have the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme, that throws everything and the kitchen sink at you but it won't top the X570 Dark. The single thing I give it over the Dark, 10G LAN.

With that said, this Gigabyte X570 Xtreme has grown on me. The BIOS doesn't get in the way of me tuning the CPU and memory the way I want. The funny thing is, until I installed the latest BIOS, I was not getting the USB dropouts...now I am. Weird...very weird. It is a night and day difference between the Asus Z590 BIOS and the Gigabyte BIOS. Gigabyte doesn't have all of the extra fluff features.

Your recollection is mostly accurate. It was so long ago now that my recollection isn't perfect. I did not have problems with 4870M and 5870M and I had both in CrossFried configuration in an Alienware M17xR2. They were reliable, performing great, overclocked pretty decent using RBE and gamed well. Right after that was when AMD bought ATi and the last generation of ATi branding. Everything turned to crap with AMD 6970 and 6990 and 7970. Every single one I had (desktop and laptop) from that point forward was junk and had to be RMA'd because they malfunctioned. And, in CrossFried they malfunctioned even more. This is when I dismissed AMD as being unacceptable and switched to NVIDIA.

I also never had any issues with SLI and wish there was better support for CrossFried and SLI today. I would still be running SLI if it were not essentially abandoned. It was awesome as far as I am concerned. It was during the 6000 series and later that AMD was having a lot of hate thrown at them with frame-pacing issues on multi-GPU systems. Before that nobody ever talked about it. Some people had no problems with it and others complained bitterly. SLI was much smoother and I literally had no issues with SLI. The same people that hated on AMD CrossFried turned the hate toward NVIDIA SLI.
The problem with the ASUS BIOS is they have a lot of duplication and redundancy of settings in different areas. Changing it in one menu doesn't affect the other and some settings applied on certain menus seem to have no effect. It is almost as if they took a generic AMI BIOS and unlocked all of the menus without testing which ones function and hiding those that do not. Much like an inexperience hack unlocks a laptop BIOS versus a pro like @Prema.

Everything I see so far about the X570 Dark is positive and I think it might be the only opportunity for AMD to redeem themselves in my eyes. I may get it just for that reason alone. They deserve a fair shake if my negativity is being driven by a crummy motherboard and half-baked BIOS.

If it funny that you mention you are having drop-outs now with a newer firmware. It seems like I am as well and I may go back a few releases and see if things settle down. It seems a whole lot worse than when I started. In fact, I do not remember having USB dropout problems during the first week or two, then a new BIOS was released.

Looking at Windows Event Viewer, I have ONLY Event ID 19 (CPU Bus/Interconnect Errors).

I am going to try this and see if it works: WHEA Errors Suppressor

Even if it doesn't fix the problem, it will eliminate the Event Logging crap. It is amazing how many times WHEA #19 error has occurred looking in Event Viewer and it is the only WHEA error that exists on my system.

OK, I did a little more reading on this in a forum where some people are giving the author of this great idea a hard time. The haters are saying it doesn't fix anything and merely stops Windows from logging a error. Those nitwits say to lower your overclock is the solution. Partly true, but it is missing the point. Only AMD can fix their mess, and lowering the overclock does stop the WHEA error with event ID #19 (CPU Bus Interconnect error) with FCLK above 1900.

The point that the idiot haters are missing is that logging HUNDREDS (even thousands if your Windows session runs a long time) of WHEA errors in event logs is pointless and doing that is a problem all by itself. Logging the errors being caused by the problem AMD needs to fix in and of itself is a problem. Logging that many errors causes performance regressions, stuttering in games and other issues because event viewer is going nuts to try to capture them all. This service does not stop it 100%. There are too many and some will get logged, but the frequency is kept to a dull roar and because there are not so many errors being logged, you can run your FCLK higher without any performance regression caused by the extreme amount of Event Viewer logging.

I think this is a brilliant idea as a stop gap measure until AMD someday (hopefully) gets their act together and fix the problem. Limiting your RAM overclock to 3800 in order to run 1:1 is without generating WHEA error #19 event logging is absolutely NOT an acceptable solution.

Edit #1: I ran AIDA64 Cache and Memory benchmark before installing this special service and saw 220 WHEA errors. I installed the service, rebooted and ran the benchmark again. There are none after the benchmark finishes. The latency improved and I did not experience a USB drop-out event, which ALWAYS happened at least once, sometimes more than once, when running the same benchmark or Cinebench.

I will run Cinebench and see what occurs now.

Edit #2: See for yourself. No WHEA errors logged in HWiNFO64.

That's pretty awesome. As you insinuated, a majority of users are looking for stability at the cost of performance and they think you are the stupid one for suggesting that you would actually utilize a product up to its maximum potential. I often try to forgive such misgivings when I remember who I used to be. I was always about stability and I allowed myself to be taken advantage of by many vendor support staff who would give the same type of advice like, make sure you aren't overclocking, try disabling some features, or other nonsense when I was having a problem. If you are a voice of reason and an advocate for the OC community then you may just win a few over :) I'm glad to hear that WHEA suppression technique may help soften the blow. I've been following your AMD saga and its pains me to see such potential wasted on elementary bugs.
