Well, i'm pretty satisfied with my actual build and configuration. But 980 TI is already out and nerd in me is itching to purchase them. Is it worth to upgrade from 980 to 980 ti (SLI in both case). I cannot find any comparison of Overclocked 980 vs stock 980 ti for example. My cards run at 1560Mhz core 24/7 under water, but, as stated earlier, i cannot find comparison of the performance difference vs a stock 980ti.

My gut feeling is that is not worth the upgrade, but i would like to listen to your opinion too.

    thanks in advance!

what is your screen resolution? If it is 1080p or even 1440p hell no its not worth it. However, if you play on 4k it makes it much easier to hit 60fps at 4k. Basically take the titan x and subtract like 2-4fps. The performance would basically be the same as a titan x. If you are indeed at 4k, then you may want to consider it, but your current cards aren't that old to begin with, so it depends on how much money you can spend.

ahahah didn't notice it on the first post,

Anyway i play at 1440 on a Swift 144hz g-sync monitor and i don't plan to go 4k any time soon. For the moment maybe is better to keep the 980s taking in consideration that i will have to purchase also new waterblocks and this will add to the cost... at list until my setup will start to struggle playing games, wich i don't thik will happen soon.

now, back to the witcher 3 :D thanks for the advice

Eh I think a properly overclocked 980 especially under water should be able to come within 10% of 980 Ti. Yes 980 Ti can also be overclocked and all that but really at 1440p you should be fine unless you force 8x MSAA on everything.

Keep your money and wait until 14/16nm finally drops.

    Indeed, i'll wait ;)

Edit: i've seen the review of the Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 Ti.... damn, that thing is a beast out of the box, is faster than the titan x.... i have to investigate if the pcb are the same as my g1 gaming gtx 980... in that case the waterblock i'm using may be compatible with the gtx 980 ti... yum yum :D....

Well if the jump from 580 to 680 is any indication, the Pascal equivalent of 980 would mop the floor with Titan X, and big Pascal will make Titan X cry like a little girl. Of course we're still at least a year away from that, but if you don't really need the extra performance, I wouldn't spend the extra $1400 for 980 Ti's.

No i don't really have any complaint about performance. SLI 980 + 1440p is a perfect combination to play everything maxed out. And G-sync is a bless as far as fluidity and imput lag is concerned. It was just.. you know.. new more powerfull hardware... and the itch to have it just becouse is more powerfull... But i will be waiting, i don't believe that my hardware will be pushed to the limit in an year.

You will not notice a big different from the 980's to 980ti's in gaming even at 1440p. 4k will be a different story (decent performance difference). I would not make the change to ti cards from 980's currently for 1440p or competitive 4k gaming. I would wait another generation and then it would be more viable especially with AAA games coming out later this year and next year.
