    RAM incompatibilities are basically non existent nowadays as long as it's the right type of memory as in if your board takes DDR3, use DDR3, if it takes DDR4, use DDR4, ECC or non EED, etc. There are some limits to the max amount you can use as well, that's lsited in the motherboard's manual, but is usually limited by the number of sockets on the board (sometimes chipset, but I don't think that's been the case for a while). There's always the odd case, but that's about it. Official supported memory lists aren't worth that much, it's what was tested and available at the time the motherboard was designed and tested.
