I just upgraded my Mobo, CPU and RAM. The Ryzen fans have been surprisingly loud and I'm getting idle temps between 50 and 60 Celsius. Something seems iffy - I keep hearing the fans "swoosh" constantly like they're revving up and down. There's a little bit of a faint clicking sound too occasionally.
Any ideas what's up? I bought an Asus B450-F with the Ryzen and RAM already pre-installed. Could it be a lack of thermal paste? Or something not plugged in properly?

I'd pull it apart and clean it with alcohol and make sure it's very clean before re-applying paste, and use a good quality paste sparingly - use good technique, no sense rushing it since it's had a problem once. Make sure the IHS and heatsink are mating well too, and screw down the fasteners in order to get even pressure coverage.
Good luck. -
To be fair, I haven't done a fresh windows install yet either, just replugged in my SSDs. Rookie error but I may rectify that this weekend. Appreciate the thorough answer! Helped confirm some of the stuff I was worried about. First new build in 4/5 years so I'm super rustyhmscott likes this. -

Definitely reinstall Windows when changing platforms unless you want degraded performance.

Yeah, definitely doing that tonight or tomorrow. My temps are back up to the mid-40s also after 30 mins of browsing the internet so will be checking out the thermal paste situation as well.

Is this why my CPU and GPU utilization are so low in DX12 for BFV? Will try to reinstall windows to resolve it. -
Sounds like a bad thermal paste application on the CPU.
Might also be the same on the GPU.
Do the repaste and do a clean/fresh install of Windows (don't forget to also install latest BIOS/UEFI update for your mobo).hmscott likes this. -

A hot CPU can bottleneck a GPU but since there is no spec to your system that is hard to know.

@Vitor711 Update RTSS to latest version from guru3d.com I think you're using 6.x version which was buggy on some AMD platform.
