I am so tempted to buy this thing. I love Star Trek and the Borg. It looks awesome. If you can add a video card in the smaller one I might go for it (even if low profile). It would be great as a Steam Box.

I think I'm going to buy the little one no matter what. Looks cool! Hopefully it really does have green lighting in the casing.

Yeah, I might bite on the little one too. They call out the actual motherboard and no onboard PCI-e slot, so no chance of dedicated GPU. I may use it as a media station/file server. Throw in an extra 8GB of RAM and a 1TB laptop hard drive and call it a day.
$599 isn't bad for that starter one. I'll bet that big one will cost $1299 to start though with the 1060. Too bad they don't offer just the case. Would rather build it up how I want it. -
Yeah I figured a GPU in the smaller one was not possible. Hopefully an eGPU will work. Would be a good excuse to buy Aorus' mini 1070 box. It's still a pretty cool thing for the living room TV or something I want to steam stream to. That i3 is plenty good enough for at least that.
-
Although the Aorus gaming box costs $600, so if you can get the bigger cube for ~ $600 more with 1070 then might as well go that route.

Man if that case were available on it's own I'd be making an unnecessary purchase right now.

Lol, yeah I thought of that after I typed it. We'll see. I don't think my wife will go for a giant cubic foot Borg cube in the house though.hmscott likes this.

Signed up for the mailing list, and found out they make games too

Yeah, would be better if they offered a Ryzen option for the big guy. (I say big, it's only 12 in x 12 in x 12 in...)
Cubic foot is small actually. It's not like it's a giant ATX tower with lots of LED bling.
Hmm, mobile games only it seems...hmscott likes this. -
If the small one lit up then that would be almost a no-brainer purchase for a fan of Star Trek. It doesn't seem like the small one does though. And if they offered the case alone then I'd definitely be all over that heheh.

what's a borg cube?
-
Where are you seeing that the small one didn't light up?
-
Well if it doesn't, I'll probably just make my own. This sounds like a great project for a metal 3D printer.

Trying to imagine the airflow inside that.

I'm making an educated guess based on the current article and promotional material released including the photos. In the listing for the 12x12x12 it specifically states, "Green illuminated fans, keyboard and mouse". They called direct attention to illumination where they do not in the 6x6x6 listing. Also they show a picture of only the 12x12x12 with illumination and do not show the smaller cube in the same fashion. So to me this infers there is no illumination built in the small cube.
That being said, its a guess based on incomplete information and based on marketing expectation - one would think they would have announced illumination for the small one as they did with the large one.
TLDR: I made an assumption based on given information - it's all speculation

Cold air goes in, hot air goes out, you can't explain that! -
It's science!
-
Twist, it can only be used in the cold vacuum of space!
-
Interesting. I'd like to see some pictures of the back of the case and how they went about the rear IO. I'd like to see a Hellraiser box next.

Just like with most other really specific items, I would never get it myself but I'm happy it exists because it means people still care and are making cool things.
