As per title, will Pascal be worth the wait? I'm only planning to build a desktop next year around Feb and from what I heard, Pascal will be out by Q2 of 2016.
IF I'm saving up to build it next year Feb, I'm going with 980ti. But if Pascal is worth the wait for a few months, I might just get a 970 and build it now rather than shelling out for a 980ti.
Opinions?

980Ti is already coming out? What are you waiting for? You can buy the card now and upgrade you hardware and move the 980Ti to the new setup. Are you programming something the 970 can't handle as they both are the same architecture underneath.

Pascal will be worth the wait.. if you bear the 970, get that and wait for Pascal... Otherwise, 980ti isn't bad at all..hmscott likes this.

I would say build it now with the Skylake CPU with other parts (or wait until black friday or christmas to see if there's good sales), and get the GTX 970. When Pascal comes out, replace the GTX 970.

ipwn3r456, why not get a 980ti instead of a 970?.
The 980ti will have better resale value when you want to upgrade. It's a long time till Pascal is shipping in quantity and drivers are updated to the point of best performance / stability.
Why not enjoy the best game performance you can over that "waiting" time?
-
I guess the 980 Ti will work fine too, it's just up to OP what kind of gaming performance that he wants now. The GTX 970 will certainly work fine if OP plans to play games on 1080p.
-
Only planning to play games on 1080p for now. And the Skylake build is exactly what I did =D.
The 980ti in my country cost nearly double of a 970, way too out of my price range for now. Besides, I might giveaway my 970 to one of my friends when I upgrade, so the resale value isn't much of a factordeadsmiley and hmscott like this. -
If that's the case, perfect! The GTX 970 will just work fine. Unless if you are enabling DSR, or whatever crazy graphics configurations on games that you are doing, the GTX 970 should max out most games on 1080p at the moment.
-
Great, the most I'll do to the games I play are probably some Reshade/Sweetfx, nothing too extreme.
Besides, with a fair bit of overclocking, the 970 should handle most games perfect in 1080p (Hopefully) -
I reckon it would be fine if you're aiming for 60fps. There's only a select few games that would struggle on maximum settings.
-
And apart from Crysis 3, they would all be Ubi$hit games most likely.

Don't forget TW3 and GTA V if we are talking about maxing out games on 970 at 1080p.
Otherwise no complains about the GPU. -
And Witcher 3... But that seriously probably covers them all.
Edit: TW3.. Was mentioned lol -
To be fair TW3 was a Game(never)works title so it's no surprise it was totally wrekt.
GTA V is about the only legit demanding 1080p that isn't due to either the Ubi$hit or Gamewrekt factor lol -
Yeah, I feel GTA5 is pretty honest with its usage/power demands. At least as far as non-SLI goes.

Well to be fair to 970 TW3 and GTA V (except for maybe some settings in advanced graphics menu or whatchamacallit) can be maxed out, though you won't get stable 60 FPS. But with 30 FPS they work fine
-
30 FPS
What are you, a peasant console gamer?
Btw here's the optimization guide for GTA V. Grass quality is #1 killer of performance, followed by shadow quality and reflection quality. -

OP is building a desktop.
No, I just prefer eye-candy over FPS.

It was a joke Kenny, although it probably didn't come across as one.
