    Transfering files from one portable drive to another, both on the same USB hub

    since the direct USB port is at the back of my desktop PC , it's very not convenient to plug and unplug at all times so I use a 1-to-4 USB hub, which connects to three external portable hard drives.

    If I transfer files between those drives (on the same USB hub that connects to one USB port at the end), will it cause heat or any other issues or could it worsen the hardware components or lifespan of the hard drive?

    It definitely can be "yes".

    Doing file transfer in this way means you're loading at least 2 drives simultaneously, driving up the power draw. Many USB hubs and HD USB adapters come with additional power supplies for a good reason, even if only 1 drive is involved, not to mention 3 of them.

    With that said, it's your duty to ensure the combined maximum load of all devices connected does not overload your hub, so transferring files from one drive to another should not be treated as a special case.

    What kind of hub and drives are you using?

    Alot will depend is it Powered USB or USB powered and also why do you need so many ext Drivers plugged in are you not able to use Int HDD/SDD to do the storage and transfer?
