Just wondered what desks people have and why they chose them? Are height adjustable desks popular these days? They're a lot more expensive than conventional desks for some reason...
Would be keen to hear your thoughts

Don't have a height-adjustable desk. Mostly because my current desk is tall enough for me to comfortably use, and partly because it's free (came with the apartment I'm renting).

An ordinary desk - legs and a top. Works well for me so far.
Of course in the future I wouldn't mind an L shaped desk. -
A $10 desk from a university used-furniture store. Mostly because it was $10, fit in my car, and has been stable. At the time I bought it I was just out of college, so a sturdy desk for $10 was an attractive proposition. That it's still stable and all has decreased motivation for replacing it.
Been thinking about getting a standing/adjustable desk for quite awhile. I like the idea of adjustable since I suspect that flexibility would be nice in gaming marathons, but there's a very large price increase, at least for the ones with automatic adjustments, which I think would be worth it to avoid accidentally tipping my monitor off the desk with manual adjustments.
Maybe I should just go for a standing desk, plus a nice tall bar stool for flexibility. Although if I were to keep an adjustable height desk for a long time, the price difference looks a lot less severe.
I've also thought about getting a nice big regular desk with tons of space that could double as a board game table - probably not going to get both that and a standing one in one desk. -
I use a $39 desk from walmart. Its just perfect for my small business and killing Romans on Total war.

I have a basic 3 shelf desk not those fancy wrap around or split desk and mine works just fine. I only spend 20$ for mine.

I have this desk and I love it. The desk looks nice, professional, and yet very minimalist. It's much larger than what it appears. Plenty of desktop space, and built very sturdy as well. -

This one here:
Solid hard maple. It is height adjustable too, just need to turn it over and adjust the legs. Lowest setting I can sit in my chair. Highest setting a high stool works great. But I have a second one similar to it in my PC workbench area that is at max height and is great. In the past I had traditional desks with hutches, but I always wanted a nice big solid sturdy table like this. Since I moved homes, I splurged and bought this too.
I like to have room to spread out and a surface that is durable. -

Cut that table in half and put a smaller shelf on top of it for the monitor stand and that is my desktop roughly size wise.

Really interesting responses and quite insightful too. I quite like the idea of a bar stool setup - its a nice middle between office and standing upright in a scrumlike fashion.
Tried to buy the Bekant sit/stand corner desk, then the 5 sided desk, two days in a row from IKEA. Both days they said they had it in stock and both days they didn't!! Wasted about 8hours of my life in total browsing, buying, waiting in IKEA. Really disappointed, I'll have to spend a bit more on a good one online.
I'll take recommendations from anyone who knows where i can find a reasonably priced sit/stand desk similar to this: http://m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/spr/39061144/

While it would be cool to say I made my desk, I just bought it in parts and assembled it.

Learning from my mistakes, if I did it now, I would go bigger.
What desk do you have and why?
