Long story short I've had my current desktop for quite some time, originally pieced together from cast-off parts I was given by a sysadmin friend who needed some help installing a lot of new hardware in exchange for all the redundant hardware that was up for disposal that I wanted...... I scored several cases and displays.

I robbed the cases I got and built one good case for myself and a couple of not as good ones to offload, but in the years since, things have slowed down and finally came to a head when I got a BSOD a couple of days ago, so while its down for a while, I thought I might show it some cheap/ebay love and upgrades, but I come seeking advice.....

    What I have:
    Asus PSGD1-VM motherboard
    https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5GD1VM/overview/
    Intel P4 3.2Ghz CPU w/oversized ASUS HSF
    http://ark.intel.com/products/27480...g-HT-Technology-2M-Cache-3_20-GHz-800-MHz-FSB
    3gb PC3200 DDR400
    Asus EN7300GS 256mb graphics card
    Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775w PSU

    What I want to achieve:
Win7Pro/32, regular word processing and internet use, as well as some HD videos, any gaming I do gets about as complex as NFS Underground and Battlefield, so nothing crash hot, maybe a 512mb gfx or 1gb if it isnt a huge jump in price (part/model number suggestions please?), as well as a RAM increase to 4gb.

WLAN is a must-have upgrade but range and simplicity being the important parts, thinking something like a Ubiquiti SR71, not really interested in anything but the antennas being outside the case.

I'm open to any other suggestions on what else might be worth tracking down given that this is starting to be reasonably old equipment now, and some of the fun toys from back in the day might be available for slightly sane(er) prices.

P4 huh? Those are really only good as space heaters these days, unfortunately.

might only be good for a space heater, but it works, and I'm not expecting the world from it, just exploring what I can do with limited funding.....

I'm not really interested in dropping a few hundred on a new quad core system when I wont be utilizing most of its ability
