I'm going to build a gaming desktop and need opinions on a good but affordable motherboard. I will be using full ATX with 1151 socket, being that I'll be using an Intel i5 6600K processor and Nvidia 970 card. Please let me know which ones you suggest. Thanks.

I need to buy a gaming motherboard. I need one with the following:

    - Overcloackable
    - No SLI or Crossfire - I will not do SLI or Crossfire
    - Can fit in an ATX mid-sized case
    - Budget, low cost
    - Problem-free

Are you going to go SLI or Crossfire? Or do you prefer Nvidia or AMD? If your going to game hardcore then you need to ask this yourself as well. There are some online seller that has Board/CPU combo that might have 1151 with i5-6600K that should fit what your looking for but the GPU is another question you need to look to what your looking to get out of it to figure out with SLI or CF do you want as well. Also get monitors are you doing Dual screen side by side or one large massive screen? There alot needed when building a Gaming Desktop here. For motherboard/CPU combo check Newegg setup to see what will fit your bill.

Stick with the major contenders and you'll be fine. It boils down to features and color scheme these days. Asus and Gigabyte are my two choices. They are all great these days. Don't over buy on features that are fluff . If you don't want her to be a beauty queen then grab one with the features that will meet your needs. As mentioned above sli/Xfire would be one of the major decisions.

Uh do you have a desired cpu or ram type? Like Z97 vs Z170 matters a lot (Haswell vs Skylake).

Hi. To answer your question I'll be using 8GB ram and i5 processor. Regarding the processor more specifically, I dont know whether to get an i5 6600K or 6500. As you know, 6600K is overclockable while the 6500 isn't.

Someone suggested that I dont get an overclockable processor because it wont enhance gaming, like, increasing frames per sec.

Let me know what you think I should buy. Thanks.

Ok so that's Z170, Z97 for example doesn't support that cpu only older ones like the 4690k.

I have i7 4790. Difference to i7 4790k in addition to overclockability is faster base clockspeed: 3.6ghz vs 4.0ghz.
If they had same speed, they would be both as fast without overclock. Now there is about 10% difference. So check the specs too, in addition to just model names.

After searching around (since i'm in the same boat as you, looking for a mobo), just wondering, what is your price range for a mobo? Or how much do you want to pay for a mobo? Also, as far as brands go, I would choose an asus or a gigabyte. I mean, look up asus vs gigabyte vs msi mobo, most people prefer asus/ gigabyte, while 50/50 say msi is good/bad so in short msi is ify. Finally, for specific motherboards, if you want to spend under 150, there's the asus z170-a, the z170-ar, the z170 sabertooth-s, the gigabyte gaming 5 and their z170 ud 5 (or the ultra durable version. Honestly, i can't tell the difference between the gaming 5 and ud5... to be completely honest, I couldn't tell you the difference between these four suggestions.... I mean, other than the number of ports (like fan headers, # of usb 3 ports, ram speed support, sound cards) but nothing super major such as build quality/ lifespan. Well, fan headers is important if you have tons of case fans and don't want to get splitters... Anyways, if you want to spend more, there's the gaming 6 (but i would just go for gaming 5 since these two are soooo similar) and the gigabyte gaming 7, which has more features than the gaming 5 and 6. Oh, and gaming 7 is around $200, If you really have a big budget, as in the ultimate build, there's the asus z170 deluxe? I think it's the deluxe. that's a chunky $300. You can look at msi and asrock, however, I can't determine how reliable msi and asrock are compared to gigabyte and asus since they tend to have more negative reviews (or at least that's what it seems). Tell me how it goes and what board you picked, cause i'm still trying to put together a build. haha

This is pretty much how I feel. I go with ASUS, but any of the big guys should do you well. No need to get all the extras if you have no use for them. I hear AsRock does well, and you can get them at good prices. Otherwise, MSI and Gigabyte are also good choices.

What's your budget? I didn't see it anywhere.
