Hello
I just finished building my Desktop, and at the end I noticed that I need a PCI card or a WiFi USB to actually have internet on my Desktop.
Now my motherboard that I used is Asus z97

I am worried about getting a random PCI card and then frying the motherboard or something. Could you hep me out pick a good PCI card compatible with my motherboard.
Or do you think I am better off getting a WiFi USB
I would like your opinion and recommendation
Thanks

While I do not have your specific motherboard I'll share what I have in my MSI H97 mATX desktop. I decided on an affordable solution and bought this PCIe wireless adapter 11 months ago.

Since installation it has been stable and even without the antennas I still get a consistent connection to my router which is ~15 feet (or ~4.6 meters) and one wall. Not sure how long distance would work out as I cannot carry my desktop up and down the street to test
My OS is primarily W8.1 however I recently discovered that the card also works OOB with Linux Mint 17.1. Considering that the card still works after 11 months and holds a consistent connection I would say it was a good investment for my purposes. Good luck! -

I too am looking for a PCI wifi adapter. Currently I'm eyeballing this one:

Read a bunch of reviews, some good, some bad. Not really sure what to do. -
I see only single band (2.4 GHz) cards have been listed so far. If you have a dual band router you should get a dual band card (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz). If you don't have a dual band router then what the hell are you doing.

^This one has Bluetooth and 802.11ac support. It's actually a laptop Intel AC 7260 converted into a desktop PCIe x1 card. The AC 7260 is removable and can be swapped with any mPCIe half height card.Last edited: May 30, 2015 -

If I was you I get on newegg a Intel based AC wifi PCI-e card I had good luck with the N series version. They have them on newegg as well.

Ask that question to my neighbor. -
Even more reason for you to get on the 5 GHz spectrum that your pesky neighbors aren't clogging up

Why, the crappy wifi router he has doesn't even go there. Also, the shop I'm buying my stuff doesn't carry any PCI dual band adapters.
Anyway, I think octicpes provided the OP with a good list of adapters he could use for his mobo.
Which PCI wifi card should I get for my asus z97
