    Actually, you have to.

In order for your computer to use a drive, it has to have at least one partition and formatted with a file system that the OS you are using can write files to the disk.

Ummm, no, No need to format 30 times. Quick format is fine, no need to low level format on a new drive, that would be nothing but a waste of time.

that were my thoughts, what do you think about quick format vs pc infected with some nasty viruses? is 1x wipe enough to be sure you are clean?

@Raiderman is correct. Assuming you're not wanting to do a low-level block read or some kind of recovery on the files that used to be there, once a format has been applied, you can consider all the data on the drive gone.

To me a quick format is enough to clear everything out unless you want to use something like killdisk to wipe it clean before formatting as a data drive. But that is the extreme here. Standard Quick format is good enough to wipe it clean to be reused as data drive.

I done that without problem just reformat as just a drive and that will remove all previous partitions. I usually just use it all as one 2tb don't make partitions or partitions the drive just make it one.
