Oh! And another important question... The prices for the PSU's above I estimated for a good ATX version (80+, detachable cables to avoid clutter). If I were to go for an external PSU, costs will likely go up slightly. It would have become more feasible though. Power consumption has come down a lot in the meanwhile. The peak consumption of a normal (non Ti) GTX 660 is only 152W (according to TechPowerUp - The latest in hardware and gaming). How much power-headroom would you recommend?

Using a 203w Xbox 360 PSU would be more than enough.

Thanks for the answer. Still I'm a bit concerned if the 203W of an Xbox 360 PSU really are enough. I mean if one would factor in an efficiency of lets say 85% I would end up with just a few watts extra. Are the 203W representing the effective output?

The PSU for the xbox is a lot more consistent than a regular psu. Even if your card maxxed out at 170w, that 30w would be enough. That card is going to max out at 150w, so 50w is way more than enough to be considered safe.
