Nothing. Still, I think the problem is in drivers. I've noticed that some games just don't work with older drivers. Well, waiting for 260.63 w/ Optimus ;>

Can anyone drop me a link how to use my internal monitor with DIY Vidock? Is it possible only with Optimus, or can I use it with my HD4870?

The best would be Intel 4500MHD and higher and Nvidia card for Optimus. For ATI you can use Ultramon LCD.

Glanced at your sig Nando4 and have to agree that the ViDock looks like a perfect companion to a SandyBridge CPU. I am considering replacing my 1410T with a 12" SandyBridge unit. Do you think that HP will be upgrading the Elitebook 2540? What a great combination ... a portable unit with an integrated GPU as powerful as a 310M and an external Fermi.

I am not a gamer and use my GPU primarily for editing and presenting Satelite Images (using a tweaked 3820TG ATM). The SandyBridge GPU is probably powerful enough for seamless presentation of the satellite images on location and the ViDock would boost the GPU to workstation power when plugged-in. Has anyone used a commercial GPU like the Quadro FX5000M in the ViDock? Do the NVIDIA commercial GPU's work with Optimus?

    Thanks

    Bronsky

Hi Thank you for your reply,

I just went to try this but I am not having a new problem. I had to re-install my windows a week ago and now after I go to re-create the bootloader in Win7, I cannot get it to load.

When the boot menu comes up, I select bootloader but I just get redirected back to the bootloader. I triple checked all the setup details from http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-vidock-experiences-63.html#post6295529 but it doesn't work anymore :( any ideas?

My on-board video card is Intel X4500.

I look forward to see if the new AMD cards will give any noticeable performance and if I can use more than 2 DVI monitors this time :) if both those are true then I am 100% going to upgrade

    Why does it say here:
that if you have 6 ports like I do I could just move my wifi and bluetooth to the last two ports and then use mpcie X2 in the first 2 and only have a 20% performance loss according to your scaling.
I want to know how I can get this running non intrusively on my laptop with a 5670 and a 150 watt PSU with the X2.

Nautis has packaged the Quadro drivers for use with the desktop cards. Since the Optimus drivers work with desktop cards then by induction it is very likely the Quadro cards can modded into the .INF as well. A good question to ask Nautis for absolute certainty.

Just need this US$30 Active DP to SL-DVI-D Adapter to do triple DVI Eyefinity as explained here with any HD5400+ series card.

I'd advise delete any existing DIY VIDock Setup 1.x entries in your bcd using EasyBCD then reinstalling the files step-by-step.

Only some of those 6 ports will be electrically connected to devices which decides the port layout. So you want your mPCIe+expresscard or mPCIe+mPCIe slots to be port1+2, 3+4 or 5+6 to do x2. To reroute devices to other ports would require some major SMT rework, not something that is feasible.

If can't do x2 then the only way to get more out of the N51+HD5670 is a x1E tweak if you can connect to an odd port.

Yes, RE5 is CPU bound so makes sense you'd double your score with the faster CPU.

Can you kindly post at least 3dmark06 and RE5 DX9 benchmark results so can be added to the first post? Would like to have another Toshiba listed. If have time/download capacity, consider doing the dmcv4 and 3dmarkvantage ones as well.

I tried this, but I keep having the same issue over and over again. Also, everytime I create a new BCD entry from the steps I get the same guid key. Is this alright?

I have ports 1,3,4,6 open according to everest

Does that mean that I actually have those slots there and that I could use them?

I know that it would have to be 3,4 to make X2 but will it for sure work?

I don't think this has been mentioned before but can I use the integrated gt 240m as a dedicated physx card?

So I managed to get through the menu based vidock setup by remming out all parts of the code which used xewc with any variation of "Press [ENTER] to xxxxxx." My keyboard will always seize on those xewc commands. I can get through the compaction and return with a pci alloc valid. I updated all the ATI and Nvidia drivers with the latest ones but the results are the same as I wrote a few weeks ago. I either get error code 12 or 35 on either the ATI or Nvidia card. Any ideas?

    Hello everyone,

    Just purchased the PE4H/E2C2 and a Radeon 4870. I need help! :D

I use it on a HP Pavilion dv7-3020ed with an onboard Radeon Mobility 4530, i installed the hardware correctly and the card runs as it should and windows detects the card in device manager with no errors using the latest drivers for the 4870. But i can't extend the laptop monitor to the external monitor and it isn't shown in catalyst or device manager. Shouldn't device manager and catalyst show two monitors btw? So that i can make my external monitor the main monitor and disable my laptop monitor? I tried rightmouse-clicking on the ati icon in the taskbar to switch but nothing happens :(.

The laptop has an AMD Athlon II M300 CPU at 2.00 GHz, runs with 4GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

I don't know what to do next and hope someone can help!

I managed to get my boot working properly by deleting my boot partition and re-creating all the boots.

I managed to get everything working through the bootup, I also managed to install the drivers from NVIDIA.

But everytime the graphics card tries to initialize I get BSOD...I had this problem when windows tried to download and install drivers as well.

I've corrected the xewc issue in all cases except the countdown timer (wait_e/waitvid). Also can try the Video card -> Save/Load PCI dump which you to capture/load your video card's PCI space in case hotplugging it is presenting issues.

Setup 1.0e3 with relevant new features released today to tackle the NVidia hotplugging+chainloading issue.

    Code:
'Configure Video card': to hotplug+chainload NVidia cards.
'Video card state' menuitem using atiflash/nvflash
Replaced xewc with echo+ansi strings for MBP/DOS compatibility.
Try Setup 1.0e3 detailed above to Save/Load a PCI dump if chainloading after hotplugging the 8800GT. OR do a suspend, attach 8800GT, resume in Win7. If neither of those corrects your BSOD then the issue is not due to a hotplugged 'unconfigured' NVidia card.

Uninstall *all* existing video drivers and reinstall them. Ensure your HD4870 is connected via it's VGA/DVI/HDMI port to the LCD. Yes, we've had one user connect their LCD to the notebook's VGA connector instead wondering why their desktop video card didn't detect the monitor.

Your dmcv4.scene4 results for a T9300-2.5+GTX460 are about 18FPS or 25.5% faster than a non-Optimus setup with the same hardware. I expect 3dmark06 to be two or more times faster. Optimus accelerates DX9 performance.

Can you update your post with additional system details? RAM, Win7 versions and optional Everest port layout. Try setting your LCD refresh to 59Hz/60Hz to get the required 1280x1024 resolution option necessary to do a 3dmark06/3dmarkvantage run.

That would be me. I've never actually owned a real graphics card previous to the DIY Vidock; even all the desktops we have use integrated chips. It may actually be the case for others as well.

Hey, I finally had some time to install DIY Vidock setup however I cannot seem to get it working.

Everything runs fine its just it will not detect my GTX 460. I tried unpluging HDMI, plugging in, powering, scanning, yet it will not detect the GTX 460. (and other various combinations such as:
    -Boot Diy VIdock,
    -Power On Diy vidock, Scan
    -Unplug Hdmi, Replug Hdmi, Scan
-Unplug HDMI, power off, power on, replug HDMI, Scan
-Unplug HDMI, Power off, replug HDMI, power on , scan
    -Cannot detect GTX 460.........
Does it have something to do with my HP system being AMD?

Pretty much I cannot hotplug in the GTX 460, which causes it to hang, (loading ATI gfx, then plugging in GTX powering on, standby, resume, hang). Eventually I would like to try hybrid GFX so that internal monitor and external monitor work same time, and would like to try using only internal monitor and also possibly X2 connection.

Edit : Also just from scanning other post by AMD users, (yuutsumi) My internal GFX is ATI HD3200, in the main screen it says video... (ATI) but when i do atiflash -ai from the menu list it states no adapter found. It also does this for Nvidia
Edit2: Also i have a Diag.txt and maybe a snapshot.... idk i think system froze when i did that option if it helps

included atilash is the latest version. If it doesn't detect your integrated HD3200 then I would guess that ATI didn't want you to try to flash it? Something to ask ATI about.

If 'nvflash --list' and Setup 1.0e3 don't show the GTX460 then it means it's not on the PCI BUS. Try each of the folllwing, rebooting the system with EC2C out of the system and the mini HDMI cable unplugged after each test to see if can get the GTX460 detected:

    1. Plug in mini HDMI cable. Power on DIY ViDock. Plug in EC2C. 'nvflash --list'
    2. Plug in mini HDMI cable. Plug in EC2C. Power on DIY ViDock. 'nvflash --list'
    3. Plug in EC2C. Power on DIY ViDock. Plug in mini HDMI cable. 'nvflash --list'

It works! I'm so happy! xD

With the latest catalyst drivers i had no Code 12. But it didn't work anyway.

Now i just use my good old laptop drivers, plugin my 4870, get the Code 12 error, boot up with diy vdock bootdisk, press 7, switch to my external monitor, and go happy fragging at high settings!

Performance index went to 7,2 from 4,6!

    Thx!

So I tried 1.0e3 and it works very well on the MBP. It still crashes when entering edit.com, but that is not suprizing. I retried every type of compaction. Compaction usually makes it through unless I try 36 bit on graphics card 1 which always yeilds no solution. I have not seen "pci alloc valid = yes" regardless of the compaction method I use. This time around I was not rebooting on every attempt because the keyboard never crashes. Does rebooting between compactions have any effect? Do I have to apply the settings every time I do a compaction or does the compaction process do that for me? I belive I found a method in 1.0e2 which provides "pci alloc valid = yes" but that method using 1.0e2 still generated an error 12 or 35. I attempted to use the video card state method to get the settings while running on 2gb and reapply when running with 4gb. It seemed to have no effect. When I attempted this method, I saved both graphics cards settings one after another in the same session/boot. I then rebooted and loaded the settings on both cards and attempted to chain boot. Is this the proper method? So far I get error 12 on 4570 (the external card).

    Thanks again

Well after experimenting around, I managed to get the results I wanted. Without doing anything wtih DIY VIDOCK since i still could not get it to detect my GTX 460, I decided to just hotplug my GTX 460 with my system turned on. It actually ended up detecting my GTX 460, and I am able to have both my internal LCD and my GTX 460 monitor on same time.

EDIT: Well I got the internal monitoring working using ultramon... I was looking at chunguns method however I cannot figure out what to do for his X-gaming shortcut or im not quite sure i understand the instructions.

EDIT: MINOR ANNOYANCE - once I have hotplugged my GTX 460 and it is detected, if I sleep my system, then resume with GTX ON or OFF, the system will not resume :(

Looks like mine problem :> Boot your Windows, connect power on DIY ViDock. Wait until detected, then try to reboot system (if won't configure it or get error code 43) with connected and powered DIY ViDock (or disconnect and connect it after bios POST if have blacklisting or other issues). It should be detected and configured properly.

If I boot with DIY powered on, then it disables my IGP and only uses the GTX 460. What i wanted is for both the IGP and GTX to work, and so far only way I have found that is to boot to windows, then power on DIY and it detects and everything works (though i cannot sleep, system will hang. Also I did not have to do anything with DIY SETUP.exe)

Well I have tested the dummy LCD thing everything works fine, getting like 20-25 FPS on my games (Medal of Honor, Bad Company 2, Heroes of Newerth, Starcraft 2 Maxed out) ~only works with windowed mode. (Compare to 40-60 FPS when running off External Monitor/ 10-20 FPS on ATI HD3200 Low Settings). However what I did find is that on Starcraft 2, if you have windowed mode, then bring it back to internal LCD, if you go to options then do windowed mode(fullscreen) it will make it fullscreen (still playable), so thats nice.

No idea why mine isn't detected so well. For me it takes about 5-20 minutes to detect GTS450, then reboot and it's working (or not). The same was with HD3850 and 6600GT (error code 43).

Save/Load PCI dump will only update the video card PCI space. There are still bridges to configure and alterations to addresses made to accomodate the 4GB config, which compaction does.

Below are the DOS prompt instructions on how to integrated these steps. Try each compaction method. If gets a solution then run the generated pci.bat and chainload to Win7 as shown. If don't get a solution at all then test to see if devcon.txt is the problem by removing the "import \config\devcon.txt" text. Note too the memory and I/O allocated to the HD4650, then view Device Manager in Win7 to confirm those addresses are not somehow reallocated after you chainload which would cause the error 12 to remain. I'm hopeful the loading of the PCI dump will eradicate firmware error 35 you were seeing.

    Code:
    %DRV%:
    cd config
:: Load HD4650 8kb dump captured when when it functions in Windows (2GB)
:: Save instructions are in the "Video Card->Save PCI dump (Win)" menuitem

@Adjai, good to see it up and running. M640-2.6 will boost results as would a HD5xxx or, when released, a HD6xxx video card.

EDIT: replaced pciload with correct "pcicap load" syntax.
    EDIT #2: Replaced 1002:9490 (HD4670) with 1002:9498 (HD4650)

    >save c:\10029498.bin memory f0300000 2000
    Operand format error.

Im assuming it is expecting that first number to be hex? typing in
    >save c:\10029498.bin memory 0xf0300000 0x2000
functions properly. this would also save 8k of data

I noticed you are using this number 1002:9490
I am usually seeing 1002:9498. Should I replace wherever you used 1002:9490

I am using a 4870 on a netbook (acer timeline 1410), using the mini pci-e port. I am able to use the Boot with wifi card -> sleep -> hotplug -> resume and it works. But I am unable to boot directly with the express card plugged in, it shows up as EMPTY in everest. I tried the DIYVidock loader on a USB stick but it won't start any setup, it stays on the MSDOS prompt on C:\

Not sure what to do next, I'll probably try to reformat it again and try to install the loader again.

Oh and here's pics of my working setup

When it is in MSDOS prompt type: 2510p and press Enter.

Wait 2 sec and press keybutton 7 for Windows 7, then it should work.

I have the exact same card btw, Sapphire 4870 512MB Silent Efficiency :D

Yeah i'm probably gonna get a 5870 when it is dropped in price.

Hm the 2510P command is not working.

The thing is that if I have the mini pci-e connector plugged in it boots up but if the GPU is powered on, the laptop won't bootup properly, both screens stays black.

I tried to boot with the GPU powered off, it booted, I went in the DOS environment to C:\Scripts\ and ran "2510P" but it says
    "Scanning for ATI video card...
    Bad command or file name
    Bad command or file name
    Label not found"

Note that my laptop is NOT an Hp, its an Acer Timeline 1410.

It does work if I put the laptop to sleep and plug it though.

That's a picture of a Gateway. A Timeline 1410T only has mPCIe slots. Would be great to have full details/specs and pics of a Timeline. CULV owners would then see they have gpu upgrade options.
If you post an Everest port screenshot, can see if you can do the x1E tweak.

Suggest use disk image method of DIY ViDock Setup 1.x as your USB thumbdrive is not setup correctly.

Please ignore comments of running 2510P.bat. That was relevant to the original bootdisk which not recommended for use anymore.

Ok, good to know but the 2510p works for me atm.

I have a PCI-E 2.0 x16 port #0 that is connected to my ati mobility 4530, do you think i can use that port for my 4870 with the diy setup 1.x?

See picture below, the highlighted one is my 4870 connected with the PE4H and E2C2 ExpressCard on x1. Is it possible to use the x16 port with my 4870?

    Hi everyone I'm new here.
Reading this forum I've decided to try DIY ViDock.
    Have bought PE4H-EC2C ver2.0a.
My laptop is HP 6910p and video card Saphire HD5570.
Initially was having problems with 'error 12 not enough resources' but this was fixed with DIYVidock setup. Windows is detecting card and I can use it but I don't have 3D.
When launching ATI CCC and choosing 3D from the menu I don't see 3D image rendered it only says loading.
When starting Starcraft 2 getting the following message:
Also Civilization 5 does not start.
Both games start with integrated card.

Here is the info about system:
    HP 6910p
    Ram: 4GB
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    Video Card: Saphire hd5570
    Video Card drivers: Catalyst 10.9

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry for the gateway/acer confusion but this IS a rebranded Acer Timeline 1410. It's the Canadian version, it's just sold under the Gateway brand. The exact model is "ec1803h" AFAIK It's exactly the same as the 1410. I only have one mPCIe slot. I even flashed the bios with the 1410 bios and it's working perfectly fine.

This is my everest southbridge S/S
My port is on an even number.

also, here's a pic of the bottom of the ec1803h, I had to hold the cable since the hdmi connector is too big to let it stay still, even if I break the board to get it half-sized. I just let the laptop put weight on it so it stays still, like in previous S/S:

Odd. There's something wrong with your drivers. Suggest reload the drivers and DirectX. Once figured out, can you post your CPU and benchmarks to include on the first post? You're the first 6910p owner to post.

If have MXM and manufacture a custom adapter, then could. See http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...nal-mxm-connector-external-pci-e-x16-box.html

There are other mini HDMI cables with a small bulb end OR could cut some of the plastic so it's a better fit. The PM3N itself would be able to fit properly if snapped to be a half-height card.

No x1E is possible which means you get handicapped ~half duplex x1 1.0 performance with ATI cards. You do however have 4500MHD graphics so if replaced the HD4870 with a US$155/$220/$280 NVidia GT430/GTS450/GTX480 you'd get significantly faster Optimus performance providing transparent internal LCD usage if didn't use an external LCD.

I'd still like to include your setup on the first post. What is the CPU/RAM/Win7 version? If run 3dmark06+RE5 I can add you to the DX9 specific benchmark table.

Have you or anyone ever tried this recipe on a Dell M1330 with Vista x64?? I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT for the graphics card.

    Couple of issues I'm getting:
1.) Using the DIY software v.1.2 it says it cannot find the devcon file *devcon.txt" even though it is there
2.) When I run c:\core\grub.exe and try to compress in 32-bit, it compresses and completes (as long as I ignore the Intel display chipset 965 internal card)
3.) When I reboot, I get the bluescreen error (tried on inspiron e1505 and it says it's a code 12)
4.) Trying to chainload fails each time (not sure if this is because of the devcon issue)

I'm at the point of frustration...does anyone know how to make this work on a Dell M1330 (Vista x64 SP2 w/ all drivers) ***or*** Inspiron e1505 (with WinXP SP3)? I've pieced so much of this together that a step by step approach would be EXTREMELY helpful.

I have all the hardware (except maybe the nViidia graphic card cannot work with Intel 965 Chipset and PCI system hardware/drivers??

Recipe for hotplugging GTX470 in DIY ViDock Setup 1.x

PE4H 2.1 with it's 7 or 15 second PCI Reset delay might eliminate the need for steps 1-3 AND might make the GTX470 be in a 'configured' state making step 5 irrelevant. I'll have to wait and see once I have one to test with.

Once I had the working pci.bat generated it was very easy to get the GTX470 working:

    Automated Startup

My dilemma now how to 'configure' a hotplugged GTX470 which I've asked NVidia for help. That might be necessary for x2 1.0 setups as standby/resume can lose the x2 port settings. I have one workaround that I use on my systems - save a 'configured' NVidia GTX470 8kb PCI register dump and load it into the hotplugged GTX470 before chainloading. Result is I can even chainload straight into Win7 without it hanging. Seems to work but I'll need to test more before I commit that into Setup 1.0f.

You will be alerted only if \config\devcon.txt doesn't exist on your image/usb drive. Ensure you've created it per instructions.

Recommend upgrade to Win7, where the steps would be as below. XP can only do 32-bit allocation.

    1. Boot Setup 1.0e2.
    2. Hotplug 9500GT.
    3. Perform 36 or 32-bit selective on the 9500GT. BSODs are more likely to occur if do an ALL allocation where other devices are shifted around to accomodate the 9500GT.
    4. Poweroff the 9500 GT
    5. Chainload Win7.
    6. Suspend/power on 9500GT/resume. Load drivers.

Once done, restart the system by:

    1. Poweroff 9500GT.
    2. Boot ViDock Setup 1.0e2 -> 'automated startup using startup.bat'.
    3. Standby/power on 9500GT/resume.

New Save/Load PCI dump feature allows you, if setup right, to poweron the 9500GT prior to chainloading. Refer to help text for details.

I will bring both my GTX460 and HD4870 to work tomorrow and test them. I'll post you my full hardware and benchmark results for both cards.

I remember that I got around 4400 marks on 3dmark06 with the 4870 but I'll run it again and give you the exact numbers.

Do you have any example of those HDMI cable you are talking about? Those would be great since I could break the board to get a half-size and get a good fit. That is currently the big inconvenience in my system ATM.

Had a closer look. Unfortunately the bulb end is the same with my other cable. However you can see I've taken off some of the bulk. That helped to fit it the cable in the DV2000's mPCIe slot. Might help a little with your setup as well?

Also note: using the Optimus Driver rather than the standard desktop driver will give you two times or more faster results with 3dmark06. Other benchmarks will also register the Optimus driver as faster.

I tried the ViDock setup but now win7 dosent even detects my PCI-E port #4 (after booting in windows, it detects the wifi in vidock setup), it only shows up PCI-E 1.0 x1 port #1.

I booted up with my wifi card in, I saved the PCI state of that port, enabled chain loading, enabled 36 bit compaction, what else do I need to do?

Damn i think i screwed up. Was playing fine yesterday, then i put the mini-hdmi cable in the pci-e x2 port on the pe4h and tried to boot. Laptop didn't recognize anything so i thought ok that won't work. Then i put the cable back in x1 slot on pe4h and now i get error code 43. I think i damaged something, the pe4h, cable or card. Any ideas what it might be?

Btw i tried using the diy setup 1.03e (i think) and it won't work, i have amd chipset and not intel, sounds familiar?

    Here are my benchmarks.

They are somehow disappointing... I was expecting my GTX460 to perform a lot better than this but I guess that the 4400 mark is bottlenecked. Maybe I did something wrong?...

Well, you couldnt expect better results, because of your processor (look at mine P9400, above 2k in cpu score). For non-Optimus configuration is a good score.
