I run bitcoin mining software on my notebook when I don't use it (just for the fun of it). With my 4870 at 640/250 1.0V I get around 75Mhash/s.
If I connected an e-GPU, would I get the full hash rate or would I be limited by bandwidth?
From what I understand, bitcoin mining doesn't use much bandwidth so I should have the same result as if I had the GPU running in an x16 slot.
If this is the case, then wouldn't that then be a perfect bitcoin mining rig?
Having the GPU outside of the system so that it can be cooled well and possibly having 2 eGPUs per notebook it should be more power efficient than having a desktop mining rig.

yeah it is bottlenecked because the bandwith is not just reduced, it is VERY low compared to a pci-e 16x.
it depends on the applications but for bitcoin mining you can expect about 30% performance drop.
but this is heavily depedent on the graphic card you use because more powerfull ones use more bandwith then less powerfull. so difference could even be less 5-10% if you use a very low end one.
Does the lower bandwidth of the e-GPU have an effect on bitcoin mining?
