I am a first timer, I have a MBPR 13' Late 2013. I want to buy a Sonnet Express SEL, since I cannot get a AKITIO where I live. If I order it from the states, convert USD to CAD plus shipping, ti would cost more than the Sonnet, If I buy the Sonnet, So I need to buy a powered Riser, or a barrel plug solution like I would have to with the Akitio? I already have the GTX 980 Strix that I was given to (broken) by my brother that had an overvolting accident. He said if I can send it in, I could have it for free. I sent the card on the Monday, got a brand new card back on the Wednesday.

So this is how I am thinking the parts will be

    Sonnet Express SEL
    x8 to x16 ribbon riser
    ASUS GTX 980 STRIX
    TB Cord
    Modular PSU
    MBP

I don't need an external monitor, since the MacBook is the Iris edition without a DGPU. Since I have the GTX 980, 3K gaming would be amazing.

    Appreciate it.

    Regards.
