EDIT: Nevermind, looks like I need the PE4L 2.1

    Hi All,

First thanks to all those who have come before and documented their experiences.

    I'm running a Lenovo x220 4GB i7 w/ PE4H + GTX 460

I'm using the latest Nvidia desktop drivers and only using ext monitor.

Everything was pretty plug and play except needing to set the PCIE to Gen 1 in the Bios to get it to boot which I read that you needed to do in the main thread.

    GPU-Z is telling me i'm running PCI-E 1.1 x16 @x1 1.1

Obviously I'd like to be running at 2.0. Is this possible with this setup, is the Gen 1 forcing me to be at PCI-E 1.1? I read that you don't need to force Gen 1 with the PE4L, would I have better luck with that?

    Thanks!
    Mark

    P.S.

I can boot without forcing to Gen 1 by setting the 7/15s delay, but then I get error 12 in windows. I havn't messed around too much to see if I can get around it with setup 1.x

    Thanks again!

Current PE4H is limited to 1.1 speed. You need the latest PE4L (2.1) for 2.0 speed.

EDIT : didn't see your EDIT

Hey, jemino and whoever else can help this noob out.

Is this the right one to get?

    PE4L ( PCIe Adapter ver2.1 )

Also do you know the difference between
PE4L 2.1a vs PE4L 2.1b? How can I tell which one the link above is selling?

I already ordered my graphics card and psu..but it seems like the website is out of supply..

2.1a was the first pci-e 2.0 compliant release. It had some problems requiring the users to rework the boards. Avoid that version.

BPlus' site is now only selling 2.1b boards. If you are a US customer then consider also that HIT are selling PE4L 2.1b boards. HIT giving a cheaper shipped plus includes Setup 1.x software in the deal valued at $25/$15.

Thank you very much! The other place is out of stock (I almost had to buy it with extra 20$ of shipping..)

Last question before I hit the buy button. I do not need to add any of the other options with it right?

If you are viewing the HIT website then based on your previous comments of "already purchased the graphics card and psu" you require no options.

HIT's page has had just a minimal update to show they are selling a PE4L 2.1b. They are in the process of updating it to remove the PE4L 1.5 picture and changing the options to be appropriate. That means they will no longer have EC2C (expresscard), PM3N (mPCIe) and mHDMI cable options since a PE4L 2.1b has such components soldered on.
