    Hello,

I have an HP Envy 15 1110ea (originally a 1060ea but I upgraded the motherboard after the original board failed). I have also upgraded with new dual 1TB msata SSD's, 1080p screen, i7-920XM processor, 16GB RAM over the years since I had the laptop. It still runs Windows 7 64Bit.

The laptop works great for me except I cannot upgrade the ATI-5830 Discrete GPU.
I need to run OpenCL on a "Modern" GPU.

So I looked into removing the Intel Wireless Card and I purchased an EXP GDC Beast 8.0.
I am trying to run the upgraded HP Envy 15 1110ea with the GDC Beast and a Sapphire R9 280x OC 3GB Vapor-X Tri-X card.

    No luck.

For the purposes of getting the GDC Beast to work initially, I disabled the ATI 5830 in Windows device manager, and I removed the 16GB of ram from the laptop and insewrted only one 2GB DDR3 RAM stick.
I also went to a BIOS Mod forum and downloaded and installed the appropriate "Non HP Wireless Card Whitelisted" BIOS.

If I power up the laptop with the Power to the GDC Beast turned off I get a Wireless Error (701) at Boot. I can continue into Windows 7 login and then power on the GDC Beast/R9280x and my laptop display works, but the Mini PCIe Port does not see the GDC Beast/R9 280x in Device Manager. SiSoft Sandra Reports nothing connected to the mini PCIe Port.

If I power up the laptop with the Power to the GDC Beast turned on, I see a black screen at boot, and no video output is seen on an external display.

I have tried booting the device with the GPU set to Legacy and UEFI BIOS.
I have tried setting the PTD switch on the GDC Beast to OFF, 7S, 15S.

I know the GDC Beast and GPU are working fine as I tested them on an old Toshiba Laptop and managed to get initial video output from the GPU at boot. The GPU works fine on my Desktop PC.

More information on the BIOS Mod forum here:
    https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Request-HP-Envy-15-1110ea

Videos of what is happening and my setup are included in the above link.

Any help / advice greatly appreciated. I cannot afford to purchace a new gaming laptop, so anything to keep this laptop running would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
