I've got a Sony VPCEB4GFX.
Windows 7 64-bit
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Ibex Peak-M HM55, Intel Ironlake-M
South Bridge: Intel Ibex Peak-M HM55
Core i5 M480
8GB DDR3
E0000000 TOLUD 3.5GB
PCI-E 2.0 x16 port #2 In Use @ x16 (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (Sony) Video Adapter, ATI Redwood/Madison - High Definition Audio Controller) - It's dedicated, so there's no switch to turn it off
PCI Express Controllers
PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #1: In Use @ x1 (Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g Wireless Network Adapter)
PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #2: In Use @ x1 (Ricoh PCI-E Memory Stick Host Controller, Ricoh PCI-E SD Bus Host Adapter)
PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #3: In Use @ x1 (Marvell Yukon 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller) - I don't need this
PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #6: Empty
I have an ATI HD 6870 card sitting around.
Based on all of this, it looks like my system is a good candidate for this right?
My one and only goal is to be able to game on max or high settings at 1920x1080. That's it. Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, BF3, Skyrim, ME3, Star Wars 1313. Will I be able to do this?
1. I buy the PE4H: PE4H v2.4a + 30cm mini-HDMI + EC2C + SPB087 ExpressCard to PCI-E Adapter | eBay
2. Get an XBOX360 power supply (will this be ok for the HD6870?: xbox360 power supply | eBay
3. Open up the lappy and disconnect the Gigabit Ethernet card so I can link the port #3 with port #6 and get like, 2x pci-E. But the tables for HM55 say only p1+2, p3+4*, p5+6 can be combined. I'd be trying to combine 3 and 6. But I don't even have a PCE-E port #5, or a #4 for that matter.
4. And now I have no idea. Too much stuff going on in the thread.

2. why would you do that? buy pc power supply
3. nope, your ethernet controller is built in your motherboard -
3. Damn. Well, I have a single PCI-E 2.0 1x port then, so I would get a 20% performance hit, right? -
Hey did you ever get this to work? Right now I'm about where you were a couple months ago, feeling overwhelmed. Your setup looks very similar to mine; I have a Viao VPC-EA290x with what looks like an identical PCI-E setup.
I posted in the DIY eGPU Experiences thread but who knows if I will get a reply; there are a ton of people begging for help in there...
Overwhelmed. Can someone double check my work?
