Can I benefit from eGPU usage in resolve through my laptop screen? Meaning, my new laptop has xe Iris graphics on board. If I plug in an eGPU into my USB C port, will the laptop start using that graphics card instead of the on board and still use the notebook display?

In Windows, yes. Also the laptop needs to implement Thunderbolt, just having a USB-C port is not enough.Vistar Shook and kojack like this.

It will work then. I've done plenty of gaming on the system in my signature. Just know that the performance loss over 4-lane TB3 is around 20-25% at 1080p. Loss is less apparent at higher resolutions where it's more GPU bound. Depends on what GPU and laptop panel res.
Which laptop is it? -
dell 5406. I want the eGpu for video editing. Just to get some extra "ommph" in the video card department over the irisXE graphics on board.

There's a review on the Dell subreddit by someone and confirmed it's not Thunderbolt, ouch... https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/ju93ps/dell_inspiron_14_5406_2in1_first_impressions/

Can't you use Intel QuickSync for exporting? -
I don't know. I do not have the machine yet.
Since I have no knowledge of eGPU devices, I have a quick question.
