Hi guys,
I would like to incorporate the ViDock 4 setup but i have a few questions that i would like your expert opinion on. I have provided my system specs which can aid you with answering my questions. If you require anything more of me just ask:
Notebook Specs:
Sony F Series Notebook (VPCF111FD)
Win 7 Home x64
Intel Core i7 (1.6GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
NVidia GT 310M
8 GB DDR 3 (2 x 4GB)
External PCI Express Slot Gen 2 x16
My display:
LG 47' LCD 240Hz 1920x1080p using HD cable
1) Based on my system specs what graphic cards are available to me as my options? (preferabily higher end such as NVIDIA GTX 500 series or ATI's)
2) Higher end cards require more Power and hence comes the question of Power supply. Am i limited in Power supply? or are there ways to modify and use external higher wattage power supply in order to support higher power consuming graphic cards?
3) Are there any power restrictions on ViDock? I am confused as i have seen people talking about using ~400W PSU with ViDock, i was under the assumption that it has a cap of 225W. Does this mean you can use external Higher PSU's to support Higher end cards considering the laptop is powered by its own power leaving the graphic card alone to be powered.
4) Your own setup or recommendations using the ViDock and my system specs to give me an idea in what to consider.
I would really appreciate all your help and input, i have been wanting to figure out a cheaper alternative of upgrading my graphics and now that i have i really would like to utilize it. Thank you.

People here use DIY Vidock which is they make their own one. You can have a much bigger PSU than the Vidock which also resticts the cards you use. So if you make your own one , you could probably even use a GTX580 or something.

So correct me if im wrong i would need the following to set this up:
1) PE4H ver2.4 with EC2C from ( PE4H (PCIe passive adapter ver2.4))
2) ~400+ W PSU
3) Nvidia Graphic card
and thats all? -
Hi guys i had posted earlier asking several question about the whole DIY concept of ViDock and after getting the jist of the whole process im down to some final things that i would like to discuss.
So for my set up i want your opinions:
1) HIT ExpressCard External Graphics x16
http://www.harmonicinversion.com/pr...flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=191&category_id=25
OR
PE4H ver2.4 with EC2C
PE4H (PCIe passive adapter ver2.4)
2) GTX series graphic card (Need suggestions)
3) PSU (Need suggestions along with graphic card)
Now what im confused about is the setup part of it, what "method" would be suitable for my notebook? i have 2.0 PCI Express slot. Rest of my specs are as follows:
Sony F Series Notebook (VPCF111FD)
Win 7 Home x64
Intel Core i7 (1.6GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
(5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express root Port 1)
(5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express root Port 2)
(5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express root Port 3)
(5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express root Port 6)
(5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller)
NVidia GT 310M
8 GB DDR 3 (2 x 4GB)
External PCI Express Slot Gen 2 x16
My External display that i will be using:
LG 47' LCD 240Hz 1920x1080p using HDMI cable (Or any different method to setup display?) -
