[SOLVED]
Hi. I'll skip the part of how I got to Code 12 (unless someone asks for details on how I got my X230 to recognize the egpu). I've been doing a lot of reading and think I'm close but fail towards the end of the process.
I found this link to the tools but not 100% sure I'm using the right ones:
1. I ran acpidump -b to create my dsdt.dat
2. I ran iasl dsdt.dat to create my dsdt.dsl
3. I inserted the following paragraph immediately after the last DWordMemory enter under Device (PCI0)
QWordMemory (ResourceProducer, PosDecode, MinFixed, MaxFixed, Cacheable, ReadWrite,
0x0000000000000000, // Granularity
0x0000000C20000000, // Range Minimum, set it to 48.5GB
0x0000000E0FFFFFFF, // Range Maximum, set it to 56.25GB
0x0000000000000000, // Translation Offset
0x00000001F0000000, // Length calculated by Range Max - Range Min.
,, , AddressRangeMemory, TypeStatic)
4. I saved my changes to the dsdt.dsl
5. I ran iasl -oa dsdt.dsl to compile the .dsl to .aml and got the following error:
dsdt.dsl 7116: Name (_IRC, 0x00) // _IRC: Inrush Current
Error 6103 - ^ Reserved name must be a control method (with zero arguments)
6. I edited the dsdt.dsl and changed the old line to the new one, then saved again
original: Name (_IRC, 0x00) // _IRC: Inrush Current
new: Method (_IRC, 0, NotSerialized) { Return(0x00) }
7. I ran iasl -oa dsdt.dsl again and successfully compiled, creating dsdt.aml
8. I installed Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 10 from this link
9. I opened a command prompt as Admin
10. I ran c:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x86\ACPIVerify\asl.exe /loadtable dsdt.aml
I got the following message:
Microsoft ACPI Source Language Assembler Version 5.0.0NT
Copyright (c) 1996,2014 Microsoft Corporation
Compliant with the ACPI 5.0 Specification
Table overloading succeeded. This will only be active when testsigning is enabled.
11. The instructions I've been following here say to run bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON but this does not exist in the Windows Kits\10 directories anywhere, so I this is where I'm stuck.
I tried rebooting but BSOD so I had to load from last restore point. This is as far as I've come.
UPDATE: Ok, I've finally figured this out. This may not work for everyone but it worked for me. It's not the scientific way but it may just do the trick.
For those that are interested, the objective is to change the DSDT memory table. To do this you're supposed to dump the DSDT, add the QWordMemory, compile then replace the stock DSDT hex memory table with your new QWordMemory hex table. This actually sounds pretty simple but where things fall apart is 1) the QWordMemory table in DSDT is in hexadecimal and as text (step 3 above) when coding, which is why you have to deconstruct and recompile and 2) the deconstruct and recompile process is TERRIBLE. There is hardly any consistency and too many possible errors to fix. So, my solution instead assumes the hex table is accurate for everyone's computer so you can skip all the middle steps and get straight to the important part which is updating the hex table and uploading it back into the DSDT.
Steps:
1. Clean install of Win 10 ver 1607, install WDK 10 and open cmd prompt as Admin
2. Run \Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x64\ACPIVerify\asl /tab=DSDT to create the DSDT.ASL
3. Change the default hex table with the new hex table below (thanks artearte @ techinferno)
4. I also had to change all AMC() entries to \_SB_.PCI0.LPC_.EC__.ATMC() so it would compile correctly
5. Compile by running \Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x64\ACPIVerify\asl DSDT.ASL to create DSDL.AML
6. Upload by running \Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\x64\ACPIVerify\asl /loadtable DSDT.AML
7. Enable test signing by running \Windows\System32\bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
Replace the stock table:

On another note, I had a hard time figuring out how to power up the PE4C and how to get Windows 10 to recognize the ExpressCard and eGPU. Now that it's working it seems so simple but for those with X230's here's what I did:
1. Plug 24 ATX molex from PSU into the 24 molex on the PE4C
2. Plug 4 pin CPU molex from PSU into the 4 pins labeled CPU 4PIN on the 10 pin molex on PE4C
3. Move the 2 switches labeled SW1 and SW2 to position 3
4. Insert GPU and power it directly from the PSU, not from the PWR OUTPUT molex on the PE4C.
5. Make sure the power switch on the GPU is ON, then finally, while Windows 10 is running, plug in the Expresscard (GPU unplugged from monitor). Your PSU should turn on, you may get red, green, green, red lights on the PE4C and then after a few seconds, it switches to off, green, green, off. Windows 10 should also recognize the PCIe and install drivers. I don't think it needs to reboot but it may. If so, I suggest shutting down instead of rebooting...seems easier on the components (rebooting causes the PSU , PE4C and GPU to turn on/off twice). Windows 10 1607 (anything earlier than 1607 may have difficulties with drivers: run <window><r> winver to confirm win 10 version) will run the update (or you can run it yourself) to download and install the video drivers. If I tried installing the latest NVIDIA drivers from their website, after reboot the machine didn't act right, so I suggest using the drivers from Windows Update. After final reboot you should now see your video card in Device Manager and if you need more memory addressing, you should see an error on the device and Code 12 when you go to Properties.
Also, in my case, I did a fresh install of Windows 10. I started with the Expresscard already plugged in so Windows 10 could pick it up during installation. You will get a generic video card in device manager until Windows Update installs the video drivers.Last edited: Sep 13, 2016
