Hi, i would like to know if this lap would be nice for a eGPU setup (internal would be better :). Here the specs:

    i5 2540M 2.60 Ghz
    8 GB RAM 1333 Mhz
    Intel HD3000 (with latest drivers)
    eSATA + USB port
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
(there is also an expansion port under the notebook...)

The PCI Report from AIDA64 is attached (the report is in italian but it's easily understandable i guess :D )

    EDIT:

just to add some info the report tells me that internal wifi card has "PCI Express 1.0 x1" and another device (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter) has "PCI Express 2.0 x1" -> dunno if this port is a separate module inside the lap detachable from PCI Express 2.0 x1 port....

Any suggestion for a "best card to buy" would be appreciated too :)

Thanks in advance for any help

Unless you have an ExpressCard slot then you would have great difficulty making it work :p

Like the dude above me said. If there is an ExpressCard then it's a gogo.

    Thanks for the replies.

I think it has this one: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller... also a slot compatible with ExpressCard 34/54 :hi2:

(so... if this slot is suitable... what card should i buy? I will be able to play on internal laptop screen (HD 1600x900 :D)?

Um... According to http://shop.lenovo.com/us/ww/pdf/l420_l520_datasheet.pdf Page 3 of 4, your express card slot is optional. So unless you got the express card slot, it would work. As for the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, I have that too.

I have a Dell XPS 15 (Model: L502x) and I'm thinking the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller has something to do with Bluetooth. So...it should be a mini-PCI-e. Maybe sometime today or tomorrow I'll open up my laptop and take a look.

As for what card you should buy to play on internal laptop screen, you should first think about the methods used for internal laptop screening. I suggest using the Optimus Method which leaves you the option of getting a Nvidia GTX 500s or 600s (I am trying to confirm about GTX 600s of whether it would work but no one has replied yet).

I own a L520 and basically it`s working with an egpu but only with 2 or 3 gb of ram! I didn`t try Setup 1.x (is it the name for the program with costs?). I tried DSDT override but only with a resulting bsod.
